You are the most comprehensive person I ever met. You teach me more in 5 mins than what I have been looking for in 20 years. True story is that I am a seriously disabled hearing person now, also shit old (53). I always loved music to the serious extent. Working in the music shops customize guitars so they get their "signature" sound (ppl were crazy get vintage pickups installed) but too busted ears to make it a real profession. Used Digital stuff from Yamaha just to stem them. (But I gave em e hell stemming Gibson bass with London horns). Anyway, I love singing. But it is not easy. Not clearly hear my own tone or NO vibrato. TODAY I discovered it. Thanks to YOU. Now just practice. Thank you! Tusen takk!

My mother was a singer when she was younger, so I grew up learning her vocal techniques by ear. You can do it, everyone! If you really can’t get it, try to listen to vibrato in songs very specifically (musical theater or opera works best) and just imagine the way you would create that noise using the techniques in the video. That’s what most of the girls in my choir do, anyway. You really do get much better with practice.

Wow thanks. I just learned that the vibrato I always sort of could do is the real way to do it. I thought I was doing it the 'fake' way, too forced you know. I thought a vibrato didn't involve diaphragm, but just pure technique from the vocal chords or something. Something that only professional singers could do. Haha, thanks.

Wow! These exercises really work! I've been doing them for less than a few days and I can already hear it developing in my singing! A tip I would like to give to those who are still trying to find their vibrato is to sing freely - meaning, don't stress, restrain, or change your voice. Sing in a way that's almost like you're talking normally to someone. I would always try to sing differently cause I thought it sounded better than my natural voice. But after relaxing and singing naturally, I was able to find my vibrato. Hope this helps ya'll!

Amazing. I have a last minute audition tomorrow for Marius from Les Miserables. I have a great voice when recording folk/pop/rock music but have never had vibrato. I went through your exercises once about 20 minutes ago then sang through Empty Chairs while concentrating on relaxing my jaw and singing from my diaphragm and I now have vibrato. Added a bunch of bass and richness to my voice too. Sounds like an opera singer. Miracle. Thank you so much.

Sigh. I will try this. I get very discouraged with vibrato and a lot of times I want to hit something after I have tried a bunch of times and faaaaail. But i would love to learn how to sing with vibrato.
@nirhymeswithhi48498 жыл бұрын
Keep trying and experimenting. I developed mine by trying to relax my throat/jaw/etc in various ways. I paid close attention for any time I might stumble on it, even if it was just for a second. And sometimes I'd feel it happen -- usually just for a second -- at the end of a long note. So I'd sing the same phrase and try to replicate it. I couldn't, at first. But I kept trying and stumbling on it more and more. Eventually I got the hang of it and could choose to sing with vibrato whenever I wanted. It is something that "happens" with a certain coordination, but developing that coordination is the trick. I didn't learn about trills (the first exercise in this video) until later, but they do have a similar feeling.

How do u have a good stage presence when singing???? Please answer.
@MadeleineHarveyVoice7 жыл бұрын
HI Tiffany! Thank you for your question! Think of stage presence as ...The quality of your BEING that is behind all your DOING. It depends largely on your comfort level and how connected to yourself you are. Presence is what people respond to. When you have learned how to feel comfortable, you are totally in command of your voice. This isn't to say that your voice is perfect, or that everything that comes out is going to sound perfect. It's more of a sense of surrender into the moment. Totally at peace with whatever happens ...completely free and unattached. The voice is CONTROLLED entirely by your nervous system. This means that being nervous about how your voice may sound, or afraid to make a mistake will actually send those electric impulses to your muscles to tighten and that tightening is what inadvertently CAUSES all those mistakes that we may be afraid of making in the first place! When you are open and relaxed, your voice is free to respond to you. But we have to learn how to practice what that feels like too so it can become a habit. I have included a link below of a video I did on confidence. Hopefully, this will help you connect to yourself and feel completely comfortable, confident and in command. I hope this helps! Happy Singing! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYfNfalsjtpqa6c

Madeleine Harvey Thank you so much
@SilentStrikerTH7 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Joy If you still want another answer, stage presence in simpler terms is sort of like being comfortable enough to suck people in. Think about if I just stood there and did twinkle twinkle little star with my arms at my side and staring at the ceiling. Obviously you aren't going to attract very many people. But, say you sing twinkle twinkle little star and you are dancing and visually engaging with the audience, smiling and seeming to have fun. Then you have a good stage presence and people will be attracted to you. As for how to develop it, like Madeleine said, you really need to be comfortable. Focus on giving eye contact to as many people as you can. Smile in the happy songs, close your eyes in the sad ones, feel the music. Basically, get into it and others will get into it with you! Hope this helps!
@kyrkomusikerMagnus7 жыл бұрын
I like your choice of the word "surrender". I have many times experienced how the acceptance of what I think is bad and ugly in my own performance, makes me to reach out and attract the audience.
@CarsonBoyd7 жыл бұрын
Excellent answer. Speaking as a professional entertainer, I concur. Presence is what they respond to. The unspoken message is, "Hey, I'm present. Come join me in this moment." Animals and nature are constantly offering this unspoken message. People respond to your own enjoyment of what you are doing. You loving it, clears a pathway to them loving it. One evening I was singing for a large group of people and they were there to talk to their friends not to listen to me (which can be a drag). It's kind of like kissing someone who is bored with your kisses. Then the words, "I love it when it is like this" popped into my head and I thought, "Really Carson, what's your problem. You're basically getting paid to practice. It doesn't even matter if you make a mistake because no one will notice. You could be grateful to be here." Something shifted and I began playing for my own enjoyment, rather than for their approval. Then (not that I needed this in order to be happy) people began to notice me over there having a good time and started listening. So, in this case, my stage presence was reflected in my own ability to enjoy myself.

Came here because I wanted to be able to sing like Tim Buckley, discovered my dream is hopeless. Thank you for bringing clarity into my life.

Thank you for this video! I've been singing since I was five, but I haven't seriously engaged in learning how to sing until now
