One of my all-time favourite actresses EVER. So sad she's no longer with us. When I arrived in Central Park (coming from the UK, being mostly lost in the city) the first thing I saw was the bench dedicated to her, it was like I found my bearings just by reading her name. I adore her and always will. RIP Madeline you wonderful lady.

Geesh, a lot of the user reviewers on IMDB didn't think Madeline was funny in this. I think the movie was blah, but the parts with her more than made up for it. Maybe I'm easily amused, but the elevator scene had me laughing so hard. If she had been in more of it, it would have been infinitely better. What a talented lady she was.

In the movie,"Mame" Madeline was cast as Miss Gooch, but the producers thought that she was too pretty to play the part and she ultimately lost the part. I'm not sure if this was the Rosalind Russell or Lucille Ball version of Mame.

It was the Lucille Ball version. Apparently Lucy was not impressed with her performance and had her replaced. Madeline should have considered herself lucky because this opened her schedule up so that she could do Blazing Saddles, while 'Mame' was a unmitigated bomb
