This book is beautifully and delightfully feminist, and I still get emotional thinking about it. It's gorgeous poetic language showing us into a different world than our own through the eyes of a likeable, relatable, and firey protagonist. I look forward to Madeline Miller future works.

You can’t really be delightful about people who hate and attack an entire half of the world.

@@sylviaturner9063 so what is feminism? Doesn’t seem like anyone can agree on what it actually means, so asking you is just gonna give me one of a thousand different definitions one person may have.

@@lanterncorpsedits4104 It's about respecting diverse women's experiences, identities, knowledge and strengths, and striving to empower all women to realise their full rights.
@lanterncorpsedits410411 ай бұрын
@@sylviaturner9063 right, that’s one, and I totally respect that. But how can you really empower and make someone a victim, who was in the original book not much more than an evil witch who turned people in pigs. Sure, she was forced into isolation after using magic to turn someone into Scylla, but that doesn’t excuse her actions. And, let’s be real, if everything else about her was the same, except she was a man, there would be no one even remotely saying stuff like this.

I'd love to see this made into a film! With cgi these days it could be brilliant. It's a more sympathetic portrayal of Circe than the "wicked witch" stories previously told and makes a more moving heroine of her.

I think anyone who can make a character like Circe likable and sympathetic deserves an award.

Is the book the authors interpretation of the story with creative liberties? Or is it largely based on sources like the odissey?
