As a SA survivor, I can tell you that MANY people that you embrace and invite into your home are creeps, more than people may realize. The more that people understand that “stranger danger” is not enough of a thing to lean on, the better. This guy was a teacher that seems to have sought out children online. The best advice that I can give is to be aware of your child’s surroundings as much as you can, and start discussing “good touch/ bad touch” as soon as possible with them. Know that you can create a great line of trust with your children that you can rely on their understanding of “good/ bad touch” and the crossing of a line to help them better understand these forms of violations. Be involved in their lives on that deeper level, and do so without imposing shame. Kids are understand more than we give them credit for, they just need to know how to communicate that should they need to and that they can come to you. For anyone concerned about “people today…,” people like this guy have always existed. We just talk about it now. The concept of “weird uncle so-and-so” is now no longer just a family joke, good parents keep their kids away from that uncle and they tell the world about him. Amen to not keeping these kinds of secrets anymore.

OMG Dawn!!! This is sooooo sad…I was a choir kid….sadly, it doesn’t matter the profession anymore, NOTHING is sacred. I grew up with a close family member who was assaulting the young boys in the family. My mom found out and went to my uncle ( a cop) and it was dealt with. This was the 70’s. No one can be trusted anywhere at anytime…parents have to be hyper vigilant and sadly there are no guarantees. Thx for sharing
