Absolutely THE best sewing video I have seen! Very detailed instructions and professionally done. I also love the fact that your set looks so nice, and that you aren't apologizing for a barking dog in the background or your cat walking across your working area. ;-) I am off to my sewing room now to finally use the suede I bought a few months ago. I'll be watching all of your videos. You are an amazing seamstress.

I just got my first sewing machine and you got me super inspired to do my own things! I love the way you explain the process with every detail! I want to attempt to do a couple as Christmas presents with pu leather, will this need interfacing too? What about lining? Thank you so much!
@MadetoSew7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ana, thank you for your lovely words. I am so pleased that you like my tutorials and style of teaching. I wouldn't imagine that you will need to interface the PU Leather, they often have a backing. But it does depend on the weight of the leather, if it is lightweight it may need interfacing for support and structure, to hold the shape. When it comes to lining you could use a cotton, or even a waterproof fabric for a wash bag. I show how to introduce a lining in this tutorial - it is the same method of bag construction: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXyTmKeMm96Ja6c I hope this helps? Aneka

I would also ask that you include a link to places to get some things and your site, lastly to e.g. This, I have been trying to access some microfibre, like used for camera lens cloths. I would like this in per Metre amounts. It's a nightmare to try and find.
@MadetoSew7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. With regard to microfibre, I would try and find a company that does functional fabrics or something like that. There is a website I used years ago for outdoor style functional fabrics, but I can't remember what they are called. If I think of it, I will come back and let you know. I have tried to search on Google - but no luck! Try functional fabrics or something like that, or eBay? Aneka

hi! anyone knows if the basic and non heavy duty janome or brother sewing machine can stitch authentic leather? im currently planning to buy. would love to have your opinions. thanks!
@MadetoSew7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sheila, it will depend on how thick your leather is? For thick leather you will need heavy duty machine or an industrial machine. I teach a number of leather making courses and the thickest fabric I use (with my students standard machines) is a calf suede. However some machines can struggle with this. I would recommend trying to spend a bit more than an entry level machine (say £200 ish) as you will get a basic machine with more grit! Or you could get a second hand sewing machine (that was originally worth a lot more)? I hope this helps? Good luck on your project. Aneka x

Made to Sew hi! thankyou for that kind info! :) got a lot of different kinds of leather as our company just throws away the leather samples they dont need. think i just need to learn the basics of leather first. ;) haha maybe u got some vids that can help? :)

how to sew pleather and what needle and stitch length!
@MadetoSew6 жыл бұрын
Most of the time you can get away with a standard needle. I used a 90/14 for this - Universal Needle. But if the leather or pleather is very thick you may need a leather needle. Stitch length, depends on what you are doing, a 2.5mm stitch length will be fine for generally sewing. The thicker the pleather the more you can increase this. You will want to increase it for visible stitching, i.e. topstitching. Does this help? Aneka

can I ask where you bought the leather from ? thanks
@MadetoSew7 жыл бұрын
Hi Alison, of course! Unfortunately most of the leather I purchase is from wholesalers (so I have lots of the same :-)))! There are a couple of fabric shops that stock leather I think I have seen it on We Are The Fabric Store (www.thefabricstore.co.nz/), sometimes Joel & Sons have it (www.joelandsonfabrics.com/) and Pittards (www.pittards.com/shop/shop-leather/skins) sell leather too. The best place for cheap leather in small quantities is eBay. If people are interested I might put together some kits for leather and leather supplies, I have a pattern for a Leather jacket I will be launching as soon as I get around to a mammoth filming session! I hope this helps, Aneka :-))

i have one question. if i don't have a walking foot and my leather slips , in my case doesn't budge under the needle at all, what advice would you give ?
@MadetoSew7 жыл бұрын
You would want to use a non-stick or glide foot, by the sounds of it the leather is sticking to the metal foot? The non-stick / glide feet are usually plastic and would help. The roller foot is also a good option if you have one. Other ideas include using some tear away stabiliser on either the top of bottom of the leather and tearing it away after use, you could try tissue paper or paper (but bear in mind this won't work as well as the proper tear away stabiliser). Final idea which is also a bit cheeky but I have used in the past on my industrial sewing machine is to tape the bottom of the foot and other metal parts with masking tape, this would again stop it from sticky. Please make sure you remove the masking tape quickly after use, otherwise it can leave the foot sticky. Hope this helps, Aneka

I got tired of switching from walking foot to zipper foot. I invested in a teflon foot. It works as well if not better than the walking foot and is so much easier to put in place.
