They go well on the fly - caught one when I had the fly trailing behind me as wading over the flat in knee deep water. Small clousers would be the ticket fished slow like a softbait. Looking forward to part 2 - flounder would be a great addition to in shore sport fishery.

Hey man cheers for the comment. Yeah funny mike has caught one too doing almost exactly that. Would love to get one on fly. It’s just a matter of being somewhere where there are a few around I think

Awesome, I'm not alone. Used to fly fish for flounder in the Manukau. I tied my own flies back then and favoured wee, ugly, straggly crab patterns with a bit of weight to puff the silt on the bottom. On really light gear flounder go hard!

I've speared plenty in Raglan harbour but I have spent a bit of time looking around that spot and not seen a single one. I know someone the regularly paddles it a SUP and has not see many either. I you just need to find the right spot.

great video. I've been trying to catch some flounder on softbaits for ages and still haven't had any success. Don't know why it's so difficult here in NZ. Obviously there a lots of flounder around. In other parts of the world they seem to be caught more easily on soft baits for some reason. Looking forward to part 2 and hopefully you guys will crack the code.

That’s the plan man. Can’t compare to the USA flounder those things have teeth lol. But got them plenty of times in oz and their the same sole type we have here and the normal flounder do eat lures too. It’s just being somewhere that they are more abundant I think. Fingers crossed for pt 2

I've been trying the same thing on and off. Wish we had species with a larger mouth like overseas! I'm hoping to dig up information on a decent turbot population somewhere in NZ . . .

Only flounder I've caught on a lure was one that I foul hooked with a spinner. I would've thought their mouths would be too small for most soft plastics.

When is the best time to fish for flounder in those sand flats with the tides?

Generally the start of the incoming tide as they follow the tide up

good to see someone trying what I've been trying for the last few years haven't been out much to have any success but I do believe softbaits do work for flounders.

Has to work bro. I’ve caught heaps in oz as by catch on soft baits going for flat head and whiting, and also in deeper water on flea micro jigs. Just need to find a spot where there is a few around. So have you hooked one yet?

I've got some Gulp curlytails probably only 3cm long. Paired with a Savage Gear #1 2-4g jighead*, that might be a better match to their mouth size? *See Marine Deals (and I don't have shares)

I was surprised how well the video was received for a fish-less attempt video, but in saying that I have caught them on sb and jigs in oz but more the sole variant you have here the oval one than the diamond shaped flounder. But people assure me that they get them while targeting sea run brown trout in estuaries so still going to give it another shot. Not giving up yet ;) 🤟🏼
