@rstluca Ok, you can interpret it however you want. But it's only called "requiem", which refers to a composition related to the mass for the dead, refers to "Lord Jesus" in Lacrimosa and has a piece called "rex tremendae". I listened to this with my mom just now. All the way through it felt like a complete tour-de-force. It felt like I was somehow being kept in place almost like a sort of paralysis. When it was over I tried to talk, and say something about it in a casual way. But I just couldnt get it together, and just started crying. I don't even understand what happened. I cry sometimes at music, but not like this. It felt like I was being locked in place until the end, at which point everything poured out. I was very overwhelmed. What a crazy rollercoaster. I don't know anything about classical music, but this proves to me that Mozart is precisely the genius everybody says he is. Im still somewhat in shock. What a masterpiece.

Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Magic Flute were super famous and very successful even back then. Also, his hero and best friend, Haydn, told his father he was the greatest composer alive. I have always listened to Mozart as an academic exercise, as an endorsement of ornate composition and out of an appreciation of the development of classical western music. But this was the first piece that actually got me to enjoy Mozart. This is the only piece of his, apart from Symphony 40 and Don Giovanni in which I think he truly achieved a mastery of both emotions and construction. It is very rare that a piece can both move someone and be brilliantly put together.

@@SD-hs2pk yeah when it has no end they add it or they are ignore that chapter completely. Legends say that even Mozart was scared of his death.... He tried his best to put his grief in Requim..... Thats why u will not find a single note which shows happiness in the whole Requim......
@jubielhalasz2953 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely not true. It is filled with grief, yes, but not only grief. To say it is a Requiem only of grief would be to disregard what it exemplifies best: all of human emotion, happiness, sadness, anger, and grief. At 6:40, after an emotional upheaval in the music with the choir and orchestra at a full, deep, forte, the music suddenly pulls back, as if refraining from itself. It becomes quiter, gentler, more calm. However it stays in a minor key and never loses the underlying sense of ominous foreboding. Then, at roughly 6:56, the choir sings a major chord, while the orchestra stays minor, giving the sense that a sliver of happiness wants to break way from the grief. That one chord builds as the orchestra also modulates to a major key, until 7:01, in a moment of pure bliss, the choir takes up a phrase of irrepressible beauty in F Major, and now all the music is in a major key. The phrase floats above the rest of the sound, hovering there and gently falling back down, where a clarinet takes it over and in the tonic key mirrors the same phrase. It is a brief moment, no more than a few phrases, and yet it contrasts the entire Requiem on its own. In this one fraction of the music, one can imagine a person on their deathbed filled with grief, uncertainity, and fear of death as the music rises beforehand. But as that one phrase emerges above the music, they are overcome with peace and ease. They are at rest, content, peacful, calm. And then not moments later the music swells again, and overflows with grief, as the person passes on. One can only imagine that the dead are at peace as they die, and the grief overflowing from the end of the Requiem is merely a reflection of those left behind to mourn the dead. Perhaps Mozart wanted to show that there was part of death that was hopeful in that moment. There is certainly more grief in the Requiem than perhaps any other of Mozart's works, and yet at the same time, it is a sublime release of emotion that perfectly summarizes the entirety of human life and emotion. That was his genius at work.
