Madhuvanti’s journey reflects an incredible devotion to her art, a true testament to her resilience and commitment to exploring new depths in Indian classical music. Beginning her study in khayal, which requires a deep understanding of improvisation, vocal nuances, and rhythm, she would have honed an extraordinary sensitivity to melody and timing-skills that are invaluable when playing complex instruments like the rudra veena. Her transition from the violin and bansuri (flute) to the rudra veena is particularly compelling. These initial instruments likely provided her with a strong foundation in melody and breath control, enriching her adaptability and emotional expression. However, the draw of the rudra veena-the mother of all stringed instruments in North Indian classical music-was something she could not resist. Known for its rich, resonant tones and ability to evoke a profoundly meditative atmosphere, the rudra veena stands as one of the oldest and most intricate instruments in the Indian classical tradition. Creating her own veena to suit her style is an impressive feat, not only in terms of craftsmanship but also for the personal vision and artistic conviction it represents. She had the guidance of Pt. Rajshekar Vyas, who must have encouraged her to think creatively and authentically, as adapting an instrument as rare as the rudra veena to one’s personal style is almost unheard of. This instrument has an ancient, austere presence and demands a particular depth of engagement, so Madhuvanti’s choice to customize her veena demonstrates both her dedication and her readiness to break away from convention. Through her study with renowned masters such as Pt. Bala Chander, the Gundecha Brothers, and Vidushi Mita Nag, she immersed herself in the rigorous discipline of dhrupad, the oldest surviving form of Indian classical music. Dhrupad focuses on the spiritual aspects of sound, and mastery requires years of intense practice, meditative immersion, and a deep philosophical understanding of music as a pathway to the divine. Each of her teachers would have imparted unique insights and techniques, from Pt. Bala Chander’s emphasis on musicality to the Gundecha Brothers' approach to rhythmic precision and Vidushi Mita Nag’s nuanced style. Today, as one of the leading dhrupad artists, Madhuvanti has not only preserved an ancient art form but has also added her unique voice to it, blending centuries-old tradition with her own innovative spirit. Her background in modeling and visual arts also likely enhances her stage presence and ability to communicate beyond sound, creating a multi-dimensional experience for her audience.

I flew like a cannon ball from the backseat to the floorboards of the passenger side and rung my bell. Then a few months later in a swimming accident I sunk very deep and nearly drown, the pressure damaging my ears more. Then damage from constant ear infections caused even more damage over the course of the next 12 years. Then a botched surgery caused even more damage. I have like 6 different kinds of tinnitus 3 constant high pitch rings, especially in the left. Murmurs, clicks and pops, and a sound like a cricket.

Attention pulled suddenly around 49-50:00 to the notes resembling the vocalization of a tiger - that strange, cow-like lowing sound; looked into Bhairava, his etymology & manifestations, to find descriptions of 'fierce', 'fearsome', and 'protecting from fear', and that he also may be found wearing a tiger's skin. Whether it is a conscious or unconscious detail of the performance is an interesting question. Either way, it speaks to me of the depth of the piece and the pure openness of the performer. I am so happy to have discovered this channel.

Love from IRAN for India, people, culture and the Great Traditional Music 😍😘🥰I heard many but this Lady made my Yoga & Meditation Raag Madhuwanti is a beautiful, soulful raag, typically performed in the late afternoon, and it's quite well-suited for the Rudraveena, with its deep, resonant tones. Madhuwanti belongs to the Thaat Todi, and it has a distinct, melancholic, and romantic character, often evoking feelings of longing and devotion. Here’s an outline of the raag to better capture its essence: Arohana (ascending scale): N r G M P N Ṡ Avarohana (descending scale): Ṡ n D P M G r S Vadi (most prominent note): Pa Samvadi (second prominent note): Sa Pakad (signature phrase): N r G M, P N Ṡ, Ṡ n D P In this raag, the komal (flat) notes are Re and Dha, while Ga, Ma (Tivra Ma), and Pa are shuddha (natural) notes. The raag is best known for its subtle, gliding movements between notes and the delicate use of Tivra Ma, which gives it a unique and tender quality. For the Rudraveena, the resonant and deep tones complement the mood of Madhuwanti, bringing out the longing and romance in a meditative, majestic way. It’s a captivating experience that highlights the depth and tranquility of the instrument, especially if played in a slow, contemplative tempo. iN ADDITION: Raag Madhuwanti is a beautiful late afternoon raga in Hindustani classical music, known for its soft, romantic, and emotional mood. It is usually played in the early afternoon and is associated with feelings of longing and devotion. The raga belongs to the Thaat Todi but differs from other Todi ragas because of its shuddha (natural) ma, rather than the komal (flat) ma. On the Rudraveena, a rare and ancient Indian instrument known for its deeply resonant and meditative sound, Raag Madhuwanti can evoke a powerful, emotive atmosphere. The raga’s scale combines both unique elements: Aaroh (ascent): N S G M D N S’ Avaroh (descent): S’ N D M G R S The key phrases emphasize Madhuwanti’s gentle, yearning nature, and on the Rudraveena, the use of microtones and the long, held notes are ideal to bring out its depth. This creates a serene and introspective performance, highlighting the raga’s emotional depth and the instrument's rich tonal quality. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJDTdZ6CeLlrjqssi=WxgDu_FYFTGs2Ilr However in above Video Mr. David Elkabir is mater on Raag Ahir Bhairav and Raag Madhuwanti are best for my Yoga and Meditation practices as they are quite distinct from each other, both in structure and emotional character, though they share a contemplative quality that can be beautifully expressed on the Rudraveena. Here’s a breakdown of the differences and unique aspects of Raag Ahir Bhairav: ### Raag Ahir Bhairav - **Thaat:** Bhairav - **Time of Performance:** Early morning - **Arohana (ascending):** S r G m P D n Ṡ - **Avarohana (descending):** Ṡ n D P m G r S - **Vadi:** r (Re) - **Samvadi:** D (Dha) In Ahir Bhairav, the komal (flat) **Re** and **Ni** give it a soft and meditative quality, while the shuddha (natural) **Ga** and **Dha** add a balanced depth. The phrase structure is generally smooth and flowing, embodying a calm, devotional, and introspective feel. It’s a blend of Raag Bhairav and Raag Ahiri, which gives it a unique charm suited to serene, morning reflections. ### Raag Madhuwanti - **Thaat:** Todi - **Time of Performance:** Late afternoon - **Arohana:** N r G M P N Ṡ - **Avarohana:** Ṡ n D P M G r S - **Vadi:** Pa - **Samvadi:** Sa Madhuwanti has a romantic, yearning feel, often evoking feelings of longing. The Tivra (sharp) **Ma** is crucial, giving it a distinct flavor quite different from the devotional mood of Ahir Bhairav. ### On the Rudraveena Both raags have a naturally meditative and introspective quality that is deeply enriched by the resonance and depth of the Rudraveena. However, **Ahir Bhairav** is generally more serene and devotional, while **Madhuwanti** conveys a sense of romantic longing. Each raga’s mood and melodic movement offer a different experience on the Rudraveena, but both are deeply introspective in their own right.

Namaste - What a pleasure for me to see and hear you and your wonderful instrument. I have loved this instrument for a very long time and I am very happy to hear this now played by a woman and even with freer, more experimental recordings that I have found of you. It is good to appreciate and adopt the traditions and at the same to be open, free and curious. Thank you very much for your sounds that have found me in the Swiss Alps. I will follow your developments. All the love stefan

@@КарабасБарабас-т1ф This is a Rudraveena, a bass, plucked string instrument and originally (~3000 BCE) fretless. Frets were added for easier note playing some time around 1500 CE. A sitar is a simpler instrument to play with less range of possible notes that it can produce. In Hindu myth this was played by Shiva the Destroyer himself, later followed by the Goddess of Wisdom Saraswati (still depicted with this in idols and art)
