Let's be real.. even though Madison's SV is higher, I think we can all agree that Ashton's execution is much better. So clean.. and her lines are just gorgeous. I wish she'd made the team!

Problem is internationally she never got those execution scores that she saw in American competitions. Maddie did score well. And if there is a tie the highest difficulty wins not execution. Ashton stood no chance at the Olympics to get a medal while Maddie did. There wasnt even a debate for Marta between the two, it really came down to Gabby and Ashton.

unfortunately Ashton never stood a chance because of her injury that limited her to beam and bars. Madison could do all 4 events and Marta valued that. even if Ashton did slightly better at bars, Marta would still take Madison. only if Madison fell at bars would Ashton have gone

Team Ashton. More beautiful, more perfect, more fierce. At least she's going to Rio and we all know anything can and will happen with one of the girls. If the unthinkable happens to the three bar workers (Gabby, Madison or Laurie), Ashton will be in.

Honestly, Ashton and Madison Should have both Made the team. Gabby did horrible at trials and P&G's. Madison and Ashton were the top 2 bar workers, so why not take them both. Madison could fill in if someone gets injured. Thats what alternates are for though.

Erik Oak Why bring two bars specialists? You're not making sense...And how exactly did Gabby do horrible at P&g ' s when she was still within the top 5? If it were any other gymnast they'd be praised for having an off day but still placed in the top 5. Besides Gabby killed it during team finals...She went out there and got the 3rd highest score 15.766 with 9.266 execution highest out of the entire quad...She did what she was supposed to do and that was to come through for the team.

Hazel Amarie look at it this way. The USA wants to bring as many medals home as possible. Gabby is a great bar worker, I'm. It taking that away from her. But compared to Mustifina, Kocian and the other gymnasts who made it into the bar final, she's satisfactory. If they took Ashton instead, we would have had a better chance at a medal seeing that she was in bronze range all year. Gabby may have been an all arounder, but when you look at who didn't make the team but they beat her, raises questions. If you want another all arounder, take skinner, not someone who was 7th.

Erik Oak​​ Skinner has had average meet results all yr round and trials has been the only time she finished ahead of Gabby...And I think some of you are forgetting had Gabby not fallen she would still been in the top 5....The only way Skinner places ahead of Gabby is when she makes mistakes....Taking her would not have made sense....Her form would have been hammered internationally....And vault was already covered by Biles and Raisman. Gabby would have gotten bronze if she didn't muscle her routine...She had the highest E score during team finals and only scored 2 tenths less than Mustafina and Kocian which is their specialty....She's definitely a medal contender on that apparatus.

The deadline for bringing in alternates is 24 hours before qualifications. People could get injured past this time, think 2008 when both Chellsie Memmel and Sam Peszek were injured. It is too risky to bring someone like Ashton, you need 5 girls who can all do all 4 events, because in gymnastics injuries are frequent.

It's a shame the dumb 5 per country rule will likely stop one of these girls from going to Rio. Wish them both the best of luck.

It didn't matter if it was 6 or 7 Ashton was a solid 8th. If it was 6 McKayla would be in and 7 would of been 7th. USA doesn't need Bars that badly.

+iluvdance00 yes but they will still win by 4 points plus. They dominate on Vault and Floor and are above average on beam. Plus Madison is world champion she'll score around a 16. They don't need two bar specialist.

Bdg1991 They might not NEED two bar specialists but might as well bring the best of the best and score the highest number of points possible? As for Madison, I'm sure she will score very well, but she may not score that high internationally. At Worlds last year she scored a 15.366 if I remember correctly. We'll see :)

+iluvdance00 yes she scored a 15.3 at worlds but it was the best score of the night so I don't see why that matters. As for the Bars specialist if Madison needs to she can compete on Beam and Floor where Ashton is pretty much Bars. Gabby is good on bars too and can compete on other events too. Madison is USAs best chance for a medal on bars. She scored a 15.9 at the trials and will probably score around a 16 next week. The USA again doesn't need to have two high scores on bars for the TF they'll have the best scores on Vault and Floor with Aly and Simone. If they had brought Ashton they'd be potentially weaker on the other three events. The bigger question is who will they have compete in the AA with Simone because Madison will qualify on bars and if Gabby tries to qualify for bars only one more gymnast will be eligible for the AA Laurie or Aly. I'm betting Aly.
