Don't forget this generation didn't actually start until 2-3 years AFTER launch. Due to it being impossible to buy the systems at retail price. I really wanted an XBOX Series S at first but, it took Forever+a day for the console to be available at retail. I've long since LOST interest.

I had no special means or way of getting a PS5 or Xbox Series on launch, but I got both on launch simply due to waiting for preorders to go live like anyone else and getting lucky enough to get in quick enough before the scalpers grabbed em all... But it wasnt like anyone was really missing anything even early on lol.

That never go on sale. Why the hell would you pay $60-$70 for one game and rereleases, or $80 for joycons. When you can get game on PC on sale all the time for cheap. Hell even the other consoles for sony and xbox do sales on their titles for $20 or so and controllers are $60 and go on sale too. Noone uses a switch controller to game on PC so its only even usable on a switch. Can play all the games from nintendo on PC (if you know you know) at better resolution and fps. Don't see a point in any console.

​@@Fate862Argument was more about the software rather than the hardware. Their absolutely raping it with prices, I get it. My original joycon's sticks drifted off into infinity and I just bought a cheapo 3rd party knockoff wired controller to still be able to play the system. I don't even really play it anymore. The point is the games themselves that they make are more "game" than most other companies attempt at games. I play every new Switch game on my Steam Deck.

@@M64brosNintendo in the end will be the only company left making physical copies and when the switch 2 releases they can release ps4 ports and older pc games at high prices…they are the only game company that’s d sucking good.i still played and loved my switch due to the hybrid factor and eventually got an OLED…but after other hybrid options I have no need for its system and its stupid expensive style with less than ideal os. I moved on to an lcd and an OLED steam deck. Heck my kids don’t play the switch anymore. Granted I had fun fun with it, but the way it aged, due to the ports and lack of community in many third party titles.

I just care about the gameplay, However you are right about the physical part and we are just lucky. I have a gut feeling physical games and media will still stay just the way they are, Since a bunch of people are realizing that digital won't always be trusted. Especially while Nintendo keeps turning out new 1st party games even towards the end of the switch life cycle. Even third party developers keep turning out new games .. I’m just saying

If you already own hardware to play the games you want, why spend hundreds of dollars on a new console, controllers, etc.? If you didn't already own a system that plays those games, by all means, get the new. If I can already get the experience I want, though...

The last Nintendo console I can remember Nintendo actually offering competitive discounts/price drops on their software was probably the Gamecube or N64. From about the Wii onwards Nintendo has decided they can charge a premium, and the market has proven them correct. If you want Nintendo games cheap, unfortunately your best bet is always used.

If the steam deck was going to be a competitor to the switch then it would have been in store shelves but it's only available online, Sure! Graphics peaked and ps5 games dont look any better. Same goes for PC. Tons of PC games from ten years ago actually look better than recent ones despite fewer polys. Better art direction back then helps a lot.

MLP, I'm in Canada and the cost of living is absolutely insane due to our inept government. I'm fortunate enough to have a roof over my head and food on my plate but disposable income is extremely tight.. Both SONY and Microsoft have ridiculously expensive ecosystems for the PS5 and Xbox. Additionally they refuse to drop prices or offer periodic deals with discounts and game bundles. I would love to play some of my PS4 games on PS5 hardware but I can't justify paying $600+tax for the console and $99+tax for controllers. Microsoft is puzzling because their Series X is really struggling against the PS5 but they refuse to price it aggressively.

Nintendo switch and PC are the ideal combo. Either get an asus or steamdeck OLED and add a 1.5 terabyte micro SD. The "CRKD" switch accessory is great for handheld gaming too.

If Nintendo isn't doing a complete 180 with their next system, I doubt it will be a failure. They seem to have learned a lot from the Wii U debacle. Now they're milking the cash cow as long as possible, while making everyone starve for their next system. At this point, pretty much all it would take is a Switch 2 with more performance and better joy cons for the next system to sell like crazy. Edit: Not to forget backwards compatibility, of course.

🧐 I just went to Walmart tonight, and there were clearance stickers on the Xbox Series X and marked down to $449. I don't know what that means, but I couldn't believe it. Now, as far as people holding on to their old consoles, I was one of them. I couldn't get one during Covid and decided to hold out until a special edition console came out, and it didn't make sense since I could play pretty much all of the same games on XBONE and PS4. I ended up buying a used Series X a few months ago at GameStop because they had it marked wrong for $260, and the guy gave me a discount, and I walked out the door for $230 😂 I looked at the manufacturer date on the console, and it was only manufactured and made the month prior 😃

The PS5 is the first time I skipped a Sony console. At first I couldn’t get one like everyone else, and then by the time they were actually in stores my Switch backlog was huge. I also couldn’t think of a PlayStation 5 game that made me want to drop $500+ to play.

I have a PC+Switch, and see no reason to buy an Xbox Series or PS5. I know I can emulate Switch, but my Switch is hacked, and I enjoy playing some of my games portably. I bought my Switch before Switch emulation was a thing, and thought of selling it, because I can emulate Switch games, but I didn't, because I like playing some of my games on Switch. Unicorn Overlord is fun on a handheld.

Agree with this video. While it may be Switch and PC, I've moved over to Switch and Steamdeck and I'm completely happy. When you talk about possible upgrades for current switch games, I'm assuming frame rate will be more solid across the board, which is a pretty large upgrade. I would be happy playing my 300+ switch games at a smoother frame rate, it would make already great games even better.

I still pay games on my Xbox One X. I saw no reason to "upgrade" to an Xbox Series S/X or PS5. I did go out and buy a Switch OLED and love it and I also have a Steam Deck and an Analogue Pocket. Honestly, with all those systems I feel like I am set, and I am not missing much if anything. I am actually discovering many old games I missed the first time around on those systems Nintendo Switch especially. The fact the Xbox One X is BC with Xbox 360 and original Xbox games is also a big win. An easy thing game developers could do to help games sell more is stop making their games woke but they will not do that, so it is hard for me to feel sorry for them.

I agree with your title. The Steam Deck also shakes things up quite a bit. I remember people would buy a game twice just so they could play it portably on their Switch for a while, but now their one Steam copy can be played on desktop or Deck. So I foresee less multiplats and indies selling on Switch (2) because of that. Nintendo will still have their exclusives of course. People who want portability and a console-like experience can have Switch + Deck and be quite satisfied I think. I haven't played my Switch much since I got my Deck, so I'm probably not going to rush into the Switch 2. Maybe the only motivation would be to get a launch model because they're the most likely to be exploitable for homebrew later. I don't have any PlayStation or Xbox stuff from this gen or last gen (except the controllers), just PS3/360. My brother had both a PS4 and PS5 and it seems like the main thing he plays on his PS5 is Fortnite.

I have always played games on console and PC... but was a more console heavier game player... but with how things have been going... embracing how Steam and PC gaming works and goes with you to every piece of hardware you own going forward... its just making more and more sense to me.

I own PS4/5, Xbox X/Series X and a Switch. I have wore out 5 Switch Pro controllers and my other systems' controllers look new. My PS5 has been sitting on shelf (Unopened since I bought it 2 years ago) next to my two Xboxes that I have only used recently to watch a blue ray movie. My I think I will skip the next generation of game consoles and just stick with whatever Nintendo puts out.

I've felt like consoles are "obselete" since like the Wii Era, like Ive never seen the point of a Xbox or Playstation when my PC can basically do the same thing but better and then Nintendos always being Nintendo with something totally different and unique so they are about the only real console I would ever consider getting. I still haven't had any newer consoles since the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS2 and even then I picked up the Xbox 360 and PS2 once the games were dirt cheap like my local gamestop had loose discs $1 each for the PS2 I only see a reason for a console if your somebody who isn't that tech savy and kind of want a plug in play solution but even then every thing has to be digitally downloaded and updated and installed so you might aswell get a PC at that point, it made sense to me back when the entire game fit onto a disc but in the current age where you don't even get the full game on the disc It just ruins the appeal of a console for me.

Switch it's just fun. Ps5 and xbox are serious. People decide what they want to have out of gaming.

My PS4 Pro still plays 95% of the games that come out, my Switch is essential for first party Nintendo games and weird indie stuff, and my XBox Series X gets used for Sea of Thieves and to check stuff out on Gamepass

I agree... I have seen absolutely no reason to invest in either of the current gen consoles, not even the cheaper Series S. There haven't been any games that together make it worth paying out for. I'm still buying games for my Switch, and it's the only console that has lived up to anything. Yeah, I would have liked to maybe get Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but not enough to justify forking out 400 euros for a console, plus the price of the game, and there's been nothing else on PS5 that make it worth my while that I can't already get on Switch or my humble Ryzen 5 5500U laptop, or that works also on my PS4. Besides, I'm still a bit pissed with Square Enix and Sony for making a PS4 exclusive game (FF7 Remake) and then deciding that if I want to play the Yuffie DLC for said PS4 game, I would have to buy an entire new console for it!! Same goes for Xbox, where almost everything that I would be interested in also works on my One S. Don't get me wrong, there are some games that look really interesting, but they all seem to be going for the "invest all your time in this new game", and when you're an adult, you don't have so much time to just game. I am already still invested in long running games from previous gens, so adding more to the mix doesn't help. Shorter games are what I really look for unless it's a franchise I absolutely love, and today it seems all those games are indie games and mostly available on the Switch, which I can also play on the go whilst commuting to adulting affairs. Give me 5, 10, maybe 15 hour experiences I can enjoy and be satisfied with. I'm not in the camp of paying for hours and hours of content, I don't mind paying if the quality is there in shorter games (not 70+ euros though... one thing is paying quality, another is taking the piss). Also, the size of games ruins the nature of a lot of them, as you can't have many games installed now that you can just pick up and have fun and then swap games with unless you start investing in some extra storage, and there's no more cheap options for that either. I brought some new life to my One S by swapping out the original internal HDD for a 1TB SSD, and also changing the thermal paste whilst I was at it, and it was still cheaper than a single overly bombastic game on current gen. Another thing that has been a hit with the Switch is the fact that with most hit games, couch coop is a thing of the past. Families with more than 1 gamer kid often get one home console for the family, so when it comes to many games, even though they are playing multiplayer, it's online, and in the house only one person can use the console at a time. But you can get two Switch Lites for the price of a single PS5 Digital, and have both kids (one can be a big kid hehehe) playing together and have the TV free for whatever else. I live alone and I have both a Switch and a Switch Lite, because I use the Switch on the TV, but I have the Lite for when I go out which is more compact and robust. I wish Nintendo had made a cheaper home console version only, like no screen or anything, just the base console with HDMI out and packed in with a Pro controller or something...

I have a 4060 gaming laptop and a switch, it's more than enough for me. TBH current gen consoles have been losing their importance since they are getting close to PC. Even more to Sony Playstation eversince their exclusives are getting release to PC . So Nintendo, keep doing what you do, don't listen to PC gamers about releasing your exclusives to PC. They keep shitting on your games and yet at the same time they are complaining when you stop them from emulating your game.

Recently picked up my PS3 again and can't believe how good some of those games look running on 2006 hardware. PS4 and PS5 were mainly about higher res and consistent FPS- while monetizing each title way above the normal $60-$70 asking price (ie. your $120 WWE or CoD or $100 for Madden). That's what's ruining gaming. AND the developers aren't willing to risk investing in new games anymore unless they are sure to sell..partially why PS1 and PS2 era were considered soooo good. Failures and being allowed to fail actually does spawn creativity and new innovation. Meanwhile Nintendo proved, again, that you don't need custom high end hardware to have a successful system/generation. And let's not forget that Sony and MS are still slow walking the demise of physical games from their 2013 skirmish with GameStop. The game discs are really nothing more than a gloried downloaded...and that started with Last of Us on PS3.

I have a gaming PC and Nintendo for my gaming needs, for me buying PS5 and Series S/X is stupid moves because their games would end up on PC anyway and my 4070 already shows better graphic quality than this generation so why bother

I bought an XBOX Series S... For my daughter just gave it to her for her birthday yesterday. As for myself and my second child my son, we are sticking with our XBOX ONE X's. Unless my console breaks or a giant sale I won't be upgrading to a Series X.

7th gen I had a PS3, loved it and really disliked the Wii. Now the Wii is pretty much the only retro(ish) console that has anything going for it instead of emulation. Cheap, small footprint, great for living room multiplayer/motion control focused sessions.

I agree completely, this is the first console generation where I didn't buy one or both of Microsoft and Sony's consoles. Switch+PC+Retro consoles is where it's at.

Switch is killing it. I mean there are so many games on the switch its nuts. I ended up buying two switches the OLED and the smaller cheapest one for one the go. Also don't get me started on no man sky on the switch.

To be honest…I’ve still got my ps4, and I haven’t made the switch yet, it’s because it’s library of the current gen consoles (save for switch) is quite a mixed bag, i mean it’s been as rough as the seventh generation was. I have yet to get a ps5 but who knows? I also got my old ps3 hooked up with the tv along with the ps4, so I guess I can have the best of both worlds. But still, the ninth generation has been a bit mediocre at best compared to the eighth.

My only Switch complaints are the GUI pails in comparison to Nintendo’s previous two generations, JoyCon Drift was a disappointment and the eShop remains difficult to navigate, sluggish and just never got better. So yeah just those three things. Switch really benefited from many fantastic Wii U ports early on what’s the Switch 2 going to benefit from? I think Nintendo is fearful to release after Switch success but we’ll see

I've got an Xbox Series X and moved my One X to my home office as a 4K player and for gaming in the morning before work. I've been surprised how many games still work well on it. It's almost like they may have jumped the gun on the current gen.

One thing that really doesn't help is that game development cycles have ballooned to the point where the next Mass Effect is expected to skip this console generation entirely (maybe releasing as a cross-gen title in the next console generation if we're lucky). Speaking of cross-gen, the cross-gen push has gotten annoying this generation. I can understand doing things that way for the first couple of years, but there's no way the Resident Evil 4 remake should've been a cross-gen title. Its visuals clearly suffered as a result. It looks like a PS4 game. On top of those things, we have a handicapped Xbox console that developers struggle to make games for. The Series S just doesn't have enough RAM.

I have a Switch and PC for modern games because all the exclusives I want come to those consoles. I play the switch the most and use the PC for games not on Switch like Spiderman and Like a Dragon. If the switch was powerful enough to play those games, I probably would use my PC much less lol

The law of diminishing returns is in full effect now. There's no reason to upgrade to a new console, because there's nothing the new consoles can do that the old consoles can't. I have an Xbox Series S. It's an Xbox One with faster load times and a snappier interface. That's pretty much all it brings to the table.

I feel like the entire industry is on hold as we wait for the release of GTAVI and the Switch 2. It's like the calm before the storm. The onslaught of gaming announcements once that Switch 2 trailer drops.....it's going to be unreal. It may be the biggest video game launch since the Playstation 2.

That list is all wrong. It should be Gameboy = Massive success, Gameboy Advance = Massive Success, Nintendo DS = Massive Success, Nintendo 3DS = Massive Success, Switch = Massive Success. So, going by their portable system trend we have nothing to worry about for Switch 2.
