Cats purring is my favourite sound too! My cats purring has calmed me down from panic attacks so many times it really is the best sound in the world it’s so relaxing.

It’s been theorized that it has healing benefits- not only do cats purr out of happiness, but they purr when they’re injured. So it might not only be a calming thing for you; they could actually be healing you in some way! Cats are magnificent :)

re: your cat purring talk- not long after I adopted my girl booboo, a long haired dilute calico/tortie (she has all tortie markings but apparently since she has white she's a calico lol), she started sleeping directly in front of my face while she purred away. every night she'd get so close that she would touch it lol. if I turned over, she'd get up, walk around my head, and lay back down in front of my face again without fail. in 2020 when I was going on 32, I found myself in the emergency room with a brain cancer diagnosis. where was my tumor? directly behind my right eye.... so in front of my head behind my face. for those that don't know, research has shown that cats purr for a number of reasons- one of which is to ease pain and encourage healing (which is why mama cats purr when they're giving birth). after my 7 1/2 hour surgery and month long stay in the hospital (half that time I was in a coma oops), she stopped doing it and hasn't since. I firmly believe that she knew about my (INCREDIBLY rare*) cancer and that she was trying to heal me in whatever way she could. I love cats so much. 🥲 (*0.00006% of the population/192 people in the US/4800 people in the world. it is incurable and terminal which means that I'll EVENTUALLY die from it- not that I actively am now)
