Showcasing their uncanny skill at juxtaposing fairly downbeat subject matter with a jolly tune and a big chorus, Madness released 'Tomorrow's (Just Another Day)' as a single in 1983, when it stayed in UK chart for nine weeks and peaked at #8. Taken from their fourth studio album, The Rise & Fall (1984), the video was filmed at a more serious point in the band's career as they moved away from the nutty ska quality of their earlier work to a more sophisticated pop sound. They got to wear fancy dress though: they were still Madness, after all.

It’s hard for me to comprehend that I’m now 50 this month and the first cassette I ever owned was the Rise and Fall and then Madness 7. I was around 10 or 11 and listening to them on a small radio cassette recorder with a single speaker in my tiny bedroom. Fast forward 40 years and I’m back in the family home, mam and dad have passed away and I’ve moved back in after a pointless relationship... late on June the 12th I played The Rise and Fall going from 49 to 50.... why? I’m not sure but it was memorable and I was pretty drunk 😵

I'm sorry to hear about your relationship, and your parents. I can't say I know what's it like, I'm only fifteen. But I hope the days get better for you, as I'm going through a rough go at the moment. Not nearly as bad as you, I imagine, but we've both ended up here. Maddness was my childhood soundtrack, and it feels comforting to come back here when things are tough. I wish you the very best, sir.

Ska was characteristic of having these sad lyrics accompanied by upbeat music. And genres naturally fall in and out of popularity, now rap is popular and that style of music promotes showing off a lavish lifestyle. But there’s no use in whining about it because in this day and age you can choose what music you listen to.
@robertvermeer5951
@robertvermeer5951 3 жыл бұрын
@@gluh1172 Yes, we can listen to what we want but most will listen to music that is being broadcasted by mainstream media. Music, that, in my opinion, shows lifestyle's that are extremely unrealistic for the majority of people. This creates unrealistic expectations in life and the frustrations that accompany them. Thus is unhealthy, if not dangerous, for the general public.

The omission of Madness from the greatest bands pantheon i believe is attributable to tinny production and slightly adolescent vocalisation of the subject matter. I have always loved madness from my teenage years, their peerless fusion of ska , reggae, music hall, and motown was at times seminal.
