This was early 80s, right? Love the song, still rings in my mind... That piano opening and then the bass comes in with a weird grip and him smiling like there's no tomorrow... Fucking fantastic ! The 80s were great, a time when society was still okay and livable. But once we entered the 21st century things went downhill...

This song is honestly so wholesome, I love it! The only sliver of irony in the lyrics, is the acknowledgment that the house you grew up in won't always be there for you, which only adds to the sentiment of the song. It's nothing cynical, very sweet!

I remember, in the school band, we play this song as the last song of our little concert. I was play the piano and I had to play the first thing alone with the bass at...maybe 12 years old. I remember my hands where shaking and sweeting gallons but I did it without any mistakes. The euphoria in playing this song is incredible.

I love this song. As with a lot of great songs, it's a lot of fun, but it's also a little melancholic. We all remember "our house," a home full of everyone who was important to you at that point in time. Little things ring true, the mother is the real queen of the castle who looked after everyone else, and how is she first described? Tired. There's usually a crowd, always something happening in those good old days with everyone together, but brother's got a date to keep and can't hang around. One child goes, then the rest, onto their own lives. "Our house" is never quite the same, but that's okay. Hopefully, each of the kids will go on to create their own houses that their kids can sing about. As long as we made the most of it, we'll always have "our house," in our hearts, and we're lucky because some people never did.
