The funny thing about the song "One step beyond" is that when the video was shot, Chas wasn't actually a member of the band, look at the cover for of the album and Chas isn't pictured with the rest of them. The reason being that Chas had actually left the band before the recording of the album but joined them on stage from time after time, just hanging out with his mates and having a ball. One song they always let Chas sing was "One step beyond" and when it came to the album they went "We've GOT to include that one. let's call Chas." Which meant that Chas had to rejoin the band because that song had to be performed live during the tours. On the subsiquent albums Chas stepped up to the plate, playing trumpet, guitar and doing background vocals as well as being a double act with Suggs on stage. But yes, Madness isn't the same without Chas.

It is so heart breaking he's not longer with the band ,as a long time die hard fan of Madness I miss him so much he was the soul the band the great dancer an one of the creative forces within the band and author of some of the most enduring hits of the maddies.Take your time have a break and rejoin the band with all your pomp and pride to shout once more One step beyond .You have always been the kind of man I wanted to be smart, clever and classy and with a great sense of humour, this can't be the death of a rude boy ,remember,?

Seems such a pity Chas left and it's not the same not sure what happend too many ego's in the band maybe. When you consider how close him and Suggsy were it's a crying shame really for Chas to no longer be included in the band anymore. : (

Chaz seems a broken man. In my opinion after all this heartbreak and feeling alone re-joining with his old friends and having company and fun on stage is way better for his mental health than stewing in his room alone writing sad songs,

Sure it can't be the real Madness without Chas. Unfortunately for us fans, he decided to step out, for personal reasons. It must have been - and still be - a heartbreak for him (and the rest of the Stellar Seven), but if Chas feels he'd better go solo, we'd better respect his will, even if it hurts.
