I think the greatest thing about this voice is that (unlike the other stratospheric coloraturas) se gets LOUDER! I also have to say that this is one of her best ending high-notes. PERFECT and LONG!

La Reina de la coloratura. Con un extraordinario rango de escala vocal, que le permitía alcanzar sin problemas incluso el do6 sobreagudo. Llegó a la altura de Ré/6, 2320 vibraciones al segundo, y en una reprentación en Vichy (Francia) emitió su nota más alta, un D7 sobre un C-alto la nota más aguda nunca cantada.

Meravigliosa e splendida REGINA DELLA COLORATURA,UNA LEGGENDA DELLA LIRICA sia per la qualità del timbro di voce, sia per la tecnica di canto, che per l'estensione astrale!!! Morì prematuramente circa sui 40 anni ; in Francia fu dichiarato dal governo LUTTO NAZIONALE !!!!

I have always been a Mado fanatic since I was 15. I thought I had seen every live performance as well as every recording (especially her remastered Lakme when CDs were new). But I have not seen this. I love finding these wonderful moments on KZbin. I hope I can find more I have not seen.

Wow, the orchestra does not do her any favors here. Mado Robin is criminally underrated as a singer; people tend to hear her rapid Snow White-esque vibrato and her undeniably unique ability to hit high notes and assume she was a one trick pony, when she actually was a genuine musician. I happen to like coloratura fluff pieces like this, but I’ve also heard her sing Violetta’s arias with a wonderful grasp of the musicality and drama.

I don’t remember who told me this (a music teacher) or have anything to back it up but I was told it was in 1839 when he was at the theater in Josefstadt. Don’t know if it’s true or not as much like you I have found nothing on the internet to corroborate. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree with you about the musicality and her agility wasn't very good either, all done in the throat instead of from the diaphragm, but those stratospheric notes! What can one say?!

Mr. Andredekock, this type of voice is not supported the same way an Average lyric is. Its supported lightly on the breath AND the larynx. Like Hallstein and Sack. The vocal cords are too thin to withstand heavy breath support. They will lose all those sparkling upper notes.

Of course her voice and range were totally unique, I wish she was a better musician, or was surrounded by a better conductor, or orchestra. This is a difficult piece to coordinate, but this is not such a great representation of art. Still, I love her voice. No one has come close to her yet.

Quel monument de kitsch… l'accent italien, l'orchestre, la robe, la gestuelle, le décor, les dames qui applaudissent à la fin, tout est insurpassable… y compris et surtout les aigus, absolument fabuleux. En fait, la prestation est assez moyenne: beaucoup d'intervalles sont aspirés et la justesse n'est pas impeccable (c'était sans doute un mauvais jour). Mais dès qu'elle aborde l'octave (ou les deux octaves!) supérieure/s, elle est comme transfigurée
