I haven't seen a comment about it yet on this video, and I've seen other comments about the ending on other videos (mixed in with my own thoughts and how I felt about it after letting it settle), so I just wanted to clarify something really beautiful about Homura's goal with this ending; A small perspective that ALOT of people might not have been able to notice. While watching it for the first time and getting caught up in the theatrical momentum of the great music, epic fight, and finally the seemingly perfect "ending" at 1:35:31, I don't think people were ready for the heart-stopping twist with Homura grabbing Madoka and rewriting the universe.. which is super fine lmao What's overlooked about the ending scenes and thematic cues from Homura herself is what she's always wanted this whole time: and that's for Madoka to have a normal life. That's the punchline. Homura is a character that was revealed to us as a crazy and love-driven martyr of chaos, and I think it's very easy to get caught up in the confusion of the pacing and immediately assume that she's "evil" for the plot, when really the movie lets us know in subtle ways that she's faking her status as best as she can for the sake of a normal Madoka in a normal timeline. Our brain wants us to accept the happy ending with Madoka, Sayaka and Bebe coming down as the Law of Cycles and snatching Homura up... but... that's not really a conclusive ending for our characters' motivations, is it? Homura since episode one has always wanted to find a way to rope Madoka out of this mess, and the way to do that was to actively defy her status as a god and become a demon to rewrite and set a world that could allow Madoka again. That's it. We see Sayaka being defiant and angry at first against Homura; we see Homura's crazy smiles and notice we call herself...evil? I think many people and maybe even some of the reactors think this is the product of a deranged character turned antagonist, but what's poetic about this is that Homura's biggest sacrifice here is that she has to play the role of the universe's antagonist for it to accept Madoka as a normal girl. Homura did NOT want Madoka to be happy with resigning her fate to the Law of Cycles; that's no life for a girl who just wished for normalcy. The main character of the TV show was a strong girl who, through trial and error, became someone who could upset the status quo and become the very hope for the system she was placed in, and that's a BEAUTIFUL message for the core themes of the show... but in this movie Homura is our protagonist, and if you remember episode ten of the series, you know that before the Madoka we came to know stood a Madoka that wanted Homura to rewrite history so things wouldn't end up this way in the first place. In some way, you could say that Homura will always know Madoka better than the audience because the show's Madoka was in a different timeline. To round out my thought, I want to reiterate and then clarify that Homura as a character has to be an antagonist now to allow Madoka back, but this show has funny ways to tell us that she's putting on a front and is actually not evil deep down, she just has to act like a demon to serve her purpose. At 1:44:01 we see Homura's nonliteral henchmen (background graphics in the form of symbolism) throw tomatoes at her, as if booing her during a stage play. The striking red that appears sloshed on her face is synonymous to blood and is really cool, but they're "booing" her because of her bad acting. The world knows she's not actually evil deep down and that little detail happens fast so you can miss the implications. This is also why she says "I am now an existence known as evil" to Sayaka, even though realistically no real "evil" person would judge themselves as such if they truly think they're in the right. You don't just purposely have the want to become evil, it's something usually given to you as a name; Homura knows she has to play this theatrical act to make her revision of the world make sense. I wrote alot but that's all I wanted to say, and again some of this could have been covered in other comments on other videos elsewhere but this movie is just crazy, and probably the best animated one I've ever seen. Glad these reactions were uploaded

@@conway_bidoof7392 i’m so happy to see comments like this because I really, really do feel like Homura is judged a lot by her acting and not what’s actually happening. In the face of yet another attempt by the Incubators to hurt her and her friends, an attempt that would have eventually succeeded - she tries again to protect them. She overthrows Madoka, yes, but what does she actually do with that power? She keeps the Law of Cycles intact - wraiths still exist, but the ultimate suffering of the witch doesn’t. She gives her friends their lives back (the life of Nagisa, too, who is like NINE when she died). She makes weird self-sabotaging gestures like breaking a teacup and refusing Kyoko’s food - refusing things that Mami and Kyoko use to give their friendship to other people, tea parties and sharing resources. What she DOESN’T do: keep any of them literally in a cage. Brainwash anyone to be her friend. Put Sayaka on another continent never able to talk with Madoka again though frankly she has every reason to (I love Sayaka, but she is a genuine threat to Homura and Homura has no idea how to deal with her.) And everyone is overjoyed at having their lives back. Sayaka cries just from talking to her friends. Mami has someone to keep her company, and Nagisa has someone to take care of her. Nagisa (who may or may not also have her memories, because remember, Homura only clapped Sayaka’s memories away) is laughing with glee and twirling around (because she’s alive again!! she can enjoy being ALIVE). Kyoko is shown fooling around with Sayaka, an opportunity that the two of them never had before they died. Madoka is shown, finally, happy with her family. Meanwhile, what does the spawn of all evil do even with the power to do literally anything? she mimes suicide and her familiars throw things at her. it’s just. hurtful? to see reactors overlook it so much.

@@whiskeredwolf4861 That end credits scene is so haunting 😭 I do agree it sucks to see people overlook homura BUT ITS NOT EASY ON FIRST WATCH, THE PACING IS SNAPPY AND UNAPOLOGETIC! Your comments on everyone getting to experience happiness is true af, they might not realize why but that’s the sacrifice homura is willing to make, and honestly it makes her one of the most impressive characters I’ve ever seen. Even the construction of her dream labyrinth is maybe the greatest reveal mechanically I’ve ever seen written. Also your thing about homura meddling with the teacup and apple is such a nice catch
@whiskeredwolf4861 Жыл бұрын
@@conway_bidoof7392 YES Homura is such an impressive, well-written character. It makes me WEEP to think about her. It’s like, you can see how all of actions were shaped by other people. You can see how she constantly refuses help not because she’s prideful (though she thinks she is) but because she’s so deeply hurt that she doesn’t know how to accept it anymore. You can really track her downward spiral from a sick meek girl who only wanted a friend to an exhausted miserable soldier who wants so desperately to care about other people safely. Her character is fascinating. And YEAH, the teacup and apple thing. You can actually see her Clara Dolls reaching up to Kyoko, asking for food (friendship, help, whatever) and when Kyoko kindly tries to give them an apple, there’s a slow shot of the apple floating while Homura silently shakes her head. A refusal. Her subconscious _asks_ for help from Kyoko and then she immediately consciously refuses it. It feels so real - she wants desperately to ask for help from other people and then immediately she sabotages it because she doesn’t know how to accept it or doesn’t think she deserves it, or both. It’s great writing. She’s SO COOL, and I want everyone to very gently hug her.

Homulily is the 2nd strongest witch and is the witch that probably suffers the most. Her whole thing is getting executed over and over again with seemingly no end. Walpurgisnacht is the 3rd strongest witch in this series. The edge Homulily has over Walpurgisnacht is the fact that her familiars are op af. Homulily basically has 5 magical girls and then a army of familiars some than are physical based and the teeth that are ranged. Homulily's arm ribbons are extremely fast and large ass hell. What happened at the end is actually pretty simple. Homura's wish was to redo their meeting until she was powerful enough to protect Madoka. She never got that wish, in the show. She's got it now.
@thelittlemerman1998 Жыл бұрын
Basically, both of the wishes counter react to each others it’s literally a power struggle their wishes interfere with each others. Homura wish is she wants to protect Madoka from being a magical girl thus being the law of cycles well Madoka’s wish is to be salvation for the other magical girls to protect them save them before they become witches. So basically they’re preventing each other by fulfilling their wish because of their own wishes.

Granted Homura has full control of this world, homura has good intentions for everyone else. Giving sayaka a chance at love again. Giving everyone a normal life. The whole universe has been re-written. I wonder what will happen the new movie because the world homura has made is not that bad. Aslong as homura doesn't go batshit crazy and abuse her power which she wont. The world now is a world without fighting now.

Convert Japanese to English Before the 4th movie "Walpurgisnacht Rising", I would like to take notes and consider things that I have not fully understood so far. Even before the movie is released, we are predicting the development and ending of some of the movie's contents. I'm probably off base, but if it were, it would spoil the outcome, so I'm sorry. I watched about 5 sets of the main story, Rebellion. I have not watched any review sites etc. ①EP10 Before Homura's time loop (the turn she becomes a magical girl), Mami Madoka knew in advance that Walpurgis Night would come. ②EP12 When Walpurgis disappears, shadow of a dolls dance and rotate → The dolls rotate in pairs, each looking like Madoka and Homura. My own opinion on ① and ② Walpurgis is Homura who took part of Madoka and turned into a witch (although for convenience's sake she is not a witch). The quality of a magical girl is determined by the amount of cause and effect. Since the beginning of the time loop was caused by Madoka, each time the loop occurred, the cause and effect of each time axis was connected to Madoka, and a huge energy coefficient was added (according to QB's explanation). If Walpurgis is also Homura who has absorbed Madoka, then in the same way, cause and effect are connected to the Madoka part of Homura and she becomes a more powerful witch.The title ``Walpurgis no Kaiten'' is predicted to be a double meme of ``rotation'' and ``restoration.'' "Rotation" indicates that the Madoka who was left behind at Rebellion and transferred is the Madoka at the beginning of EP10. If Madoka has regained her memories, this would explain why she knew in advance that Walpurgis was coming in EP10. I can't predict how they will transition to their original world (the world of EP10), how Homura will separate from Walpurgis, and how Madoka will regain her memories, but I hope it will be depicted in the movie. "restoration" (meaning: regaining lost momentum and completely changing the situation) suggests that Madoka, who is taken into Homura, becomes more powerful by repeating the loop and reverses the power relationship with Homura. Since the ending will be EP12, a time paradox will occur. The causes of the time paradox are Madoka and Homura (and QBs as well), so the moment it ends in EP12 (or EP10), these causes will be removed from all timelines and universes (probably). is the ending of Walpurgisnacht Rising. ③EP12 When Sayaka consumed her soul gem and disappeared, she understood that Mami was welcomed by the principle of the circle. My own opinion: Mami had encountered Bebe's disappearance before this. At that time, I recognized the principle of circular circles. ④EP3 Bebe's Grief Seed was found in the hospital ⑤EP4 Kamijo's attitude suddenly changed and he hit Sayaka harshly ⑥EP10 Before Homura's time loop, only Madoka and Mami appear as magical girls, Sayaka appears as a magical girl in the third loop, and after that, Kyoko also appears, and the timing of her appearance as a magical girl differs depending on the number of loops. Views on ④-⑥: It's all the QB's work. Until the time loop, QB had judged Madoka to be an ordinary magical girl and Sayaka to have no magical girl qualities. So in the first episode, only Mami Madoka appears as a magical girl. After the time loop, Madoka becomes stronger and attracts more attention, but she is interrupted by Homura, who learns that she has been deceived by the QB. Sayaka is chosen as a magical girl in order to motivate Madoka to sign a contract. (That's why she doesn't really have the talent to be a magical girl.) Also, Kyoko, who is likely to conflict with Sayaka and cause confusion, is brought in from the neighboring town to play a role in stirring things up. ④・⑤The purpose of the QB setting Bebe's Grief Seed in EP3 is 3 points.1) He tried to create a situation in which they were forced to enter the witch's barrier without Mami and they had no choice but to make a contract. 2) Even if Mami was brought in, it was predicted that Bebe would be no match for them and the two would be defeated. (failed due to Homura's interference) Bebe, who turned into a witch, spread despair and caused Kamijou to fall into despair. He succeeded in getting Sayaka, who wanted to save Kamijou, into a contract. If you try to output it like this, it will take a long time, and there are a lot of things that are impossible, so maybe it's wrong? That's the honest truth. Either way, I'm looking forward to the movie.

Why? The Record girls aren’t in Rebellion, and that means adding them makes no sense. Aren’t they canon in an alternate timeline anyways? Also, Madoka Magica is not about men, it is a series very focused on misogyny and adolescent girls’ identities and struggles. Why on earth does Mami need a boyfriend- let alone one important enough to impact the plot? That has nothing to do with her arc and characterization so far. One of the main points about Magica Madoka is literally about misogyny. Mami having a boyfriend would be downright offensive to the themes that are set-up for this anime. It's been made clear that, both boys and men are not needed in this anime for the storyline to continue on, because it's all about dark magical girls with identities struggles, not some slice-of-life series with girls searching for boyfriends.
