you're nuts lol. I never thought of this as a country song despite the look and certain elements. This was so creatively produced and a complete departure from anything in "pop" music in 1999. That's what I loved about this and her next album, American Life. She went for experimentation and creativity over easy guaranteed pop success.

Dude, I thought I hated country music but you hate it on a totally different level, haha. This song came from her album Music which was more music-forward and less about lyrics. Try to give it another listen and appreciate the choreography. Madonna is the Queen of Pop but is first and foremost a dance music performer so more dance-forward music is going to be her default. “Frozen” is a brilliant song from the brilliant Ray of Light album, but I wouldn’t say it’s her “default” sound.

Hahaha, I love your reaction to this! I'm a massive Madonna fan but I can't say this song is on my list of Top 50 favourite Madonna songs. Probably not even in Top 100 favourite Madonna songs! It just bores me. I'm not keen on country music much either (with a few exceptions here and there) and I don't think Madonna suits this style at all, even though I know it's not "true" country. Well, not a full on "Howdy partner, Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaa" hoedown, anyway! It's a shame you missed watching so many other Madonna songs from earlier, going through the years that I'm sure you'd like a hell of a lot more than this one, lol! Go on, jump back in time a bit and react to Express Yourself, Oh Father (a powerful song, this one!), Justify My Love, Erotica, Rain, Human Nature, Ray Of Light, The Power Of Goodbye or even the Austin Powers' song Beautiful Stranger, which is fun. I agree with you buddy - I must admit this is one of her weakest songs and I still find it nauseating but Madonna being the revolution God she made country music fashionable (not to me other than Patsy Cline, Loretta Lyn and Dolly Parton). “Don’t Tell Me” was the OG beginnings of country music style breaking into the pop world. Subversive twang is going mainstream in the form of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” Orville Peck’s masked exploration of masculinity in country music, and Diplo brooding in a Nudie suit on Instagram. But let me remind you that Madonna was the first to pave the way for giddy-up pop. THANKS MADGE LOL
