@@realdavidjones1623 In the 80's , some artists became enslaved in contracts requiring them to churn out records by the dozen . Record companies tied them into ridiculous 10 record deals which the likes of George Michael and Sony battled out and Prince was in a battle with Warner Bros . That was when Prince changed his name to Love Symbol or the artist formerly known as Prince . Could be why he's looking so pissed off here .

I can't believe Thriller came in 1982 and was STILL being nominated in 1985... that's how huge that album was. Just unbelievable.
@amedeo29
@amedeo29 6 жыл бұрын
Well, Thriller was released November 30th, making it too late to be an entry for the 1983 awards (held in Feb of 83) Thriller the song was the final single from the album, and wasn't released until 1984, which is when the stunning music video came out, hence it being up for awards the following year. The Grammy's are held every February, and the cut off for eligible albums is September 30th of the previous year. So an album released in October of 2017 won't be eligible for a grammy until the February 2019 awards shows. Weird, I know. The album of course was huge, its almost always at the very top of every list for best albums of the 1980s, and best pop albums ever. But that being said, there are rules for when music is up for awards, and it has to have had release within a window of dates. And that is why this song was eligible. Otherwise, we probably would have seen all his albums up for awards all over again in 2010, with the awards that followed his 2009 death.

Micheal Jackson had (Vincent) Price. Did Prince have Price? Hell, no. Michael should have won, on that fact, alone, but, Prince did have "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at his side, so, it should have been a tie, with the tiebreaker being Fred Armisen does a better Prince, than Prince, therefore, Michael (and Vincent Price) should have won. May whom the hell ever has died, Rest, In Peace.

@@STARLIGHT_KSA They're talented but nowhere near as ground breaking and popular as the artist from the 80's and 90's. I'm sure there are ground breakers out there right now but they aren't getting the attention the artist did back then. Keep in mind there was no internet, no social media, etc... EVERYONE got their music from basically the same sources and there were only a few media outlets at the national and global level. The different musical sounds from those eras had never been heard before and there were so many different kinds and styles. The talent was real talent not computer assisted vocals or instrumentation.

@pennylane36
@pennylane36 3 жыл бұрын
@@aoibheannnibhroin9951 you’ve heard of BET right? Black entertainment television? There is an entire channel for tv shows with just black people in the shows. White people didn’t do that, I grew up with soul train on television, again white people excluded and not our idea Having awards for people in black entertainment was not the idea of white people to be racist. It was because black people in the industry wanted it. They wanted to have a category where they were not competing with other races in the music industry I personally think there should be no division. If you’re in the industry and up for an award, it should be all inclusive, however Kanye West doesn’t think so.

Funny story though.. at the time artists that were born out of the 70s, like Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello, often remarked that 80s music was garbage, and made similar "What the hell happened to music" comments. To this day 80s music has lots of haters. The 80s took rock and punk and made it more commercial with hair bands etc. The movement towards electronic music gave "real musicians" a bad taste in their mouth. A lot of great dance music came out of the 80s, and a lot of great pop. Singer/songwriters and guitar driven bands have long cursed the 80s for being too commercial sounding, and lacking any true talent. The truth is these people were trapped in the past, lacked innovation, and by the 1990s no one was talking about them.

@@therandomname69420 he was definitely massively popular in the 2000s. even though the 80s was his “prime,” he was still the most lucrative and sought after artist for his entire career up until his death. no one could nor ever will achieve his level

I was 7 years old in 1985. I was a marginal boy, misunderstood by everyone around me. I was passionate about music, and the music of the 80s saved my life. The music of the 80s will forever remain in my heart.

I know I probably did back then. People did coke like they did weed. Those late 70s and 80s were anything goes kind of times like we'll never see again. Sex and drugs and rock& roll. It was a fact.

@@mgebi1 Sorry , but the 90s made the 80s look like the 50s to the 60s ! Fact ! Btw. anyone who uses the word fact after they say something that they think is factual , probably wasnt around in the 80's . Word !

@@daveyboy_ Don't think it's "factual" I lived it. Why you somehow feel I used the word "fact" in a sentence defines my age? I don't understand. Your use of "word" in that context I haven't heard since an old lethal weapon movie. Yes I lived those years and decades. And the original comment is likely accurate. Also no mention of the 70s. One of the greatest era's in recorded music. But bought my first Beatles album in 1967. I don't need to debate it. I lived it, loved it, and would do it again. Musicians/Artists we're not created by autotune. Lots of raw talent. No downlads, you went to a "record" store. There will always be new music, talent. But I think your the one who wasn't around for some of the greatest music history. Fortunately every generation can come hear and listen to some of the greatest musical talent that has ever been heard. "Word"
