Of course she can. You simply can’t record 14 studio albums if you can’t sing, it requires a technique and a knowledge that people who claim successful recording artists can’t sing, don’t have.

Defining a "great vocalist" is very subjective. Madonna's voice is passionate and full of raw emotion in it's delivery. She has a beautiful melodic tone that is distinctly hers. If you listen to her albums you will find that her songs convey a lot of sentiment and emotion that many artists can't come close to. It is the same debate you hear about artists like Bob Dylan or Todd Rundgren. If you openly listen to their delivery they have a unique, powerful, sound that is signature & original.

I'm so disenchanted to read the negative comments about Madonna. Although there was obviously something that attracted these people here. It's always the women who get it - they get all the stigma attached to them, even the strong, clever ones like Madonna, who is an inspiration to us all. Personally, I find that there are people out there who are yet to fully understand the female species. It's misogyny. And some women don't like strong women. I love Madonna, and I love this song and video. Even although she 44 in this video, she looks like a wee young lassie. Stunning : D
@cecilymacnamara1228

Especially the strong, clever ones as they are the most threatening to insecure men and to women who have internalised that misogyny. Misogyny is not men who hate women; rather it is a deeply ingrained cultural psychosis which posits that women are lesser human beings than men. Which is why so many women as well as men suffer from this delusion. It's like a poison in the air we breathe rendering us all susceptible to it. Madonna is a force of nature and her intelligence and honesty are a thing to behold. And cherish. I love this song too. Promise to Try, part 2.

I can't imagine how bad it must be when a parent does that, you're poor mam must have been suffering badly to do that 😢 and it's not a "sob story" it's just your story, it's your reality. Don't ever feel like you have to justify telling people what happened to you. How old were you when that happened? My mam lost her own mother at just 18, 7 years before I was born, and it breaks my heart for her. It was so sudden aswell. I so badly wish I could bring her back. Nobody should ever have to lose their mother so young. There's never gonna be a good time, you're never ready, but at least if they're in their 90s or something you haven't got to go your whole adult life without them.

Must we always compare female singers? Isn't there room for all different kinds of female talent? Madonna has always been honest about her shortcomings as a vocalist, but she makes up for it other areas. Gaga is a great vocalist, and I don't compare her to Madonna because they are two vastly different artists, each bringing something different to the table. In any case, I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing your views.

I have ALWAYS loved Madonna. She is so much more than the queen of pop. She's just... the queen. I stumbled her after stumbling onto clips of Britney's POM tour. Britney is a sweetie and she did some amazing things but she doesn't sing live and her dancing/show just feels lackluster to me. I immediately thought of Madonna and how she still kicks ass both vocally and performance wise. I'm so glad I found this clip. To the people who put videos of her messing around with electric guitars on stage, like trying to play behind her back etc, obviously don't realise she's not being serious. This was nearly 20 years ago and she's going from an F major to a D minor in time. It takes some people a couple of years to properly learn to play barre chords. Shes improved loads here from when she performed Don't Tell Me in about 2000. I imagine she's a very good guitarist now. I'd like to see an updated version of her performing this just on her own with no second guitarist. I know for me it was in my second year of playing i really started to feel like I was getting good enough to just say "yeah" when people asked if I could play the guitar, instead of saying "well, a little bit, i can strum through a few chords" I have to say though, i was guilty of thinking she couldn't really sing too great, but she can. I think this was a beautiful performance, simple but effective. As I say, I'd love to see her playing now and see what she's learned in the past twenty years.

Besides singing Madonna has the ability to play several musical instruments. She learned to play drum and guitar from her then-boyfriend Dan Gilroy in the late 1970s before joining the Breakfast Club line-up as the drummer.[265] This helped her to form the band Emmy, where she performed as the guitarist and lead vocalist.[265] Madonna later played guitar on her demo recordings. On the liner notes of Pre-Madonna, Stephen Bray wrote: "I've always thought she passed up a brilliant career as a rhythm guitarist."[292] After her career breakthrough, Madonna focused mainly in singing but was also credited for playing cowbell on Madonna (1983) and synthesizer on Like a Prayer (1989).[264] In 1999, Madonna had studied for three months to play the violin for the role as a violin teacher in the film Music of the Heart, before eventually leaving the project.[293] After two decades, Madonna decided to perform with guitar again during the promotion of Music (2000). She took further lessons from guitarist Monte Pittman to improve her guitar skill.[294] Since then Madonna has played guitar on every tour, as well as her studio albums.[264] At the 2002 Orville H. Gibson Guitar Awards, she received nomination for Les Paul Horizon Award, which honors the most promising up-and-coming guitarist.[295]

ere was a time I was happy in my life There was a time I believed I'd live forever There was a time that I prayed to Jesus Christ There was a time I had a mother, it was nice Nobody else would ever take the place of you Nobody else could do the things that you could do No one else I guess could hurt me like you did I didn't understand, I was just a kid Oh, mother why aren't you here with me? No one else saw the things that you could see I'm trying hard to dry my tears Yes father, you know I'm not so free I got to give it up Find someone to love me I got to let it go Find someone that I can care for I got to give it up Find someone to love me I got to let it go Find someone that I can care for There was a time I was happy in my life There was a time I believed I'd live forever There was a time that I prayed to Jesus Christ There was a time I had a mother, it was nice Oh, mother why aren't you here with me? No one else saw the things that you could see I'm trying hard to dry my tears Yes father, you know I'm not so free I got to give it up Find someone to love me I got to let it go Find someone that I can care for I got to give it up Find someone to love me I got to let it go Find someone that I can care for My mother died when I was five And all I did was sit and cry I cried and cried and cried all day Until the neighbors went away They couldn't take my loneliness I couldn't take their phoniness My father had to go to work I used to think he was a jerk I didn't know his heart was broken Not another word was spoken He became a shadow of The father I was dreaming of I made a vow that I would never need another person ever Turned my heart into a cage A victim of a kind of rage I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up Find someone to love me I got to let it go Find someone that I can care for I got to give it up Find someone to love me I got to let it go Find someone that I can care for Find someone that I can care for Find someone that I can care for I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to let it go I got to give it up Oh mother, oh father I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up I got to give it up

Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2017! Underneath all the production work, Madonna really is talented. I hope she continues to keep it real.
