In 1991, an intimate documentary, "Madonna: Truth or Dare", promised to take audiences behind the scenes of the singer's famously boundary-smashing Blond Ambition World Tour. Twenty-five years later, a new documentary says there was far more going on backstage - from painful secrets to broken promises. Three of the tour's ex-dancers, Oliver Crumes, Jose Gutierez and Kevin Stea join guest host Gill Deacon to discuss how the film "Strike A Pose" reveals what became of them when the wild ride was over.

q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts."

I ran into Kevin at a club in Los Angeles about 12 years ago and literally stopped him in a hallway (I think we were both in line for the restroom or something) to tell him thank you for what he did and for inspiring me to become a dancer when I was a kid lol 🙈 We laughed and he gave me a hug and was so sweet, gracious, and ADORABLE! Thanks again, Kevin 🙃

I've just spent most of watching this video in tears. The Blond Ambition Tour was the first time I saw Madonna live at Wembley Stadium in London age 15, and I am just as much in ore of this show today as I was back then. It defiantly made me grab life by the balls and stand up to ignorance! I'm now a 44yr old guy who has just married the man of my dreams, on a boat with Madonna's Ghosttown as our walk in song in front of 65 straight people. Thank you Madonna and dancers for giving me the power to be me.

I was probably in my early 30's when I watched it only because it was on one of the channels I got on Direct TV. Living far out in the country, I got only 3 channels. I had to turn the antenna towards the chicken house to get PBS, a mountain for Ch 6, and towards the barn roof on the W side for Ch 4. Then all of a sudden I get 100's of channels, including movie channels. So the Truth or Dare documentary could of been on A & E one of those. Madonna wasn't played on the Country Music Stations so she was virtually unknown other than a glimpse on T.V. or on a magazine cover at the checker's counter. My opinion of seeing her perform was shock. I had never seen her perform, so I was shocked for several reasons. Her showmanship and choreographed dance sequences while performing on stage were jaw dropping, even if you didn't know the songs or liked the music. The song Holiday I liked and was impressed with the way she included the audience. Like a Virgin was a song I felt could've been sung by a country artist, and the wedding dress scene was cutting edge without being smutty. When I saw the same song, Like a Virgin being performed with the male dancers in Egyptian clothing, and fondling themselves all over, and Madonna doing the same on a bed underneath them, the song went from being an innocent song about a woman feeling desired to a raunchy triple "X" pornographic performance. Her music I feel could've had a wider appeal if she didn't find it necessary to accompany each one with a strip show that cheapened the lyrics of the song, and the performance of the dancers.

Indeed. Try to name anybody else's back up dancers and then say that Madonna is all about Madonna... What a bunch of idiots. What Madonna did for these people (even if some of them weren't read for it) is beyond anything anybody has ever done for the gay community. I'm not gay, but even for me it was a PLEASURE seeing something so FREE and so human in the 1990s.
@lucyfer4420

well, I'm not sure about her true intentions on setting statments about civil rights by showing openly gayness. I think it was more about shocking people (which is the driving force throuout her career) Whatever it was, it is her Star Power what have these guys on spotlight, then and NOW!

Madonna gave a lot of her staff (dancers, back-up singers, friends) room to shine in HER orbit. That's how we Leos roll: we are natural balls of magnetic light that attract people. However, that doesn't mean she was a very kind or generous person to be around. In her 20's and early 30's, she was still building her career and definitely full of herself. For her own brother to write a book exposing her says a lot. To be fair, Christopher probably misses all the good times he enjoyed with her in the 80's and 90's.

The rights to the Nice concert are owned by Pioneer...M doesn't look back...and isn't too pushed as the vocals (and cinematography) are bad. Yokohama concert has the sets blowing around in the background, so that's a no-no. The Paris concert filmed by Alek Keshishian, excerpts of which were used in ToD is PERFECT...I think the only hold-up is because of the vocals and a licencing/rights issue with Miramax.....WHO KNOWS...ask Guy Oseary :)

It's really disgusting how no one mentions the young hairdresser who was roofied and raped on the tour. And Madonna, when first hearing about it, laughed. Then realizing she was on camera, quickly apologized for laughing. No one in this interview mentions that girl who had that horrible experience. It is not on the Wikipedia page about the making of the film. Such blatant disrespect for that young woman. I never liked Madonna, she is a mean person and a total brat.

My favorite part of the entire film (Truth or dare) was the dancers! I saw it in a motel in Eugene OR when I was homeless right after it came out, irrelevant but I'm just remembering that now... lol. I haven't seen the more recent docs but now I gotta find those. Can't wait to see what those have in store. I remembered the stories, the fun and the challenges of that tour and I felt an immense excitement for all those dancers (& singers too!) getting to have this larger than life experience. They were all so talented and interesting and engrossing and colorful! I grew up dancing but was never very talented (or committed, tbh) but having that background myself really helped me appreciate how amazing they all were. Gotta watch Truth or Dare again now. For the 15th time, or so. I'll have some new insight after watching this interview. Great interview, BTW! ❤️💕💞👍🙏✌️

Gay men have done so much for the arts it's literally insane. All the best broadway musicals, ballet principal dancers; fashion designers. I mean they are the epitome of what art is. I heard an interview where Madonna talked about how it was a gay man that encouraged her to pursue her dreams and move to NYC. The truth is they are warriors. They are judged and discriminated right and left and still they rise.

I'm a huge fan of Madonna,,,before i didn't know her and when I bought a compilation dance album with two of her songs e.g. Everybody and Burning Up....i was hooked with the beat when i listened to these tracks...later i was craving more for her songs..and when the first album release...i really save a lot just to get a copy of her first album...for these back up dancers...they are really fierce and the best dancers were really hand picked by Madonna to get into her tours...until now she always have the best dancers and that is why she always on top of the game...more power to Madonna with her upcoming theater tour ''Madame X Tour''....

This was the only tour of Madonna's I went to and it was extraordinary. People today talk so much smack about her, it's like she didn't kill it for 40 years and set the standard for performance, reinvention and even fitness...but she did.

I don't understand how Madonna wouldn't want to reunite with these amazing souls after so much they shared and what their presence brought to her career.

many of madonna's dancers went on many of her other tours. it's just the two guys who sued her because they said they didnt want to be "outed" (as if they didnt see the cams).

THANK YOU GUYS for this very interesting story, as back-up dancers for MADONNA! And I saw you - LIVE - in Gothenburg, Sweden. on Blond Ambition Tour. You were fantastic dancers on that tour and that "Vogue"-dance and its lyrics are still very inspiring. I don´t see the name of the interviewer, so thank you for a great work, madam! :) Best wishes from Stockholm, Sweden 11/6 2016. '

Thank you for such a lovely interview. I grew up watching madonna and these talented dancers who inspired me a lot throughout my childhood. They have gained the best things in life - true friends for life. God bless you all. I love the documentary, I cried watching that, bring back so much memories. After all that fame, they struggled a lot in their lives but they have found each other again. Such a beautiful documentary, highly recommend. I am watching that again.

...Express yourselves...This interview was very interesting, and...very touching! It brought tears as also a lot of smiles. Love these guyz! and am pleased that Madonna gave them a chance! (except for the suing part...She should have stood by the promises she had given and not double back!) Truth or Dare... May you walk in sunshine... Melody Fox (aka the Princess of Rock) LPM
