Where are you getting these from?! You’re filling in the gaps I never expected to see when I was a teenager. If there is rehearsal footage from her Grammy performance of Nothing Really Matters, you have no idea how valuable that would be. She’s sounds good because she’s not jumping around and dancing. And by good this is no where near as good as Oprah. She lost the vocal touch that summer god knows why - on top of it the band and lenny seem off key which is certainly off putting for anyone trying to sing

@@seanp7dc it’s not sound issues. The key of ROL is too high for her. Might have been ok for the studio but not live performance. She dropped the key for ROL performances after this. Shanti sounds amazing because it was comfortably in her range.

It is clear now why she didn't do well vocally that night at the VMA's. She had to reach way too many times the "and I feel" notes at the rehearsals, which she did very decently, maybe by the time she had to perform for real, her voice cracked.

I think she gets nervous performing on TV. You can see her hands shaking during her 1991 Oscar performance. She complains even in the rehearsal she can't hear herself; that may have been another factor.

Well I think lenny and the band are off key with the original song which must be off putting if you’re trying to sing well. Furthermore it seems she lost the vocal touch that summer and I have no clue why. I would’ve helped if she ofc didn’t have sound issues and if there was more of an echo on her voice like on Oprah

She’s always much better in rehearsals than the actual shows. The problem here is that even in rehearsal she struggled with Ray of Light because the key is too high for her to do live all the way through. she was attempting to recreate the album version. For subsequent performances she lowered the key. Shanti is perfect though.

I agree with you, the live version was so awful but I think it’s about being human. And the most important for those who support her for a long time: she SINGS when she wants and when she can, because it seems there have been some sound problems.
