That's right. There was competition on who made the best music video for True Blue. I remember being a kid and watching other finalists. I remember this video being the winner and thinking that's pretty darn good for homemade. Thanks for the nostalgia.

Unless you had access to professional video equipment, crew, actors, editors the contest was impossible to win. Even the runner up was a professional one too if I remember correctly. Now you could do it with a smartphone and apps. But 80's you needed the real deal.

DaveE7171 I forget if they aired them on a weekend or on a school day. But geesh some of the crud they aired.... The one I remember in particular was just a video camera aimed at two toddlers bumbling around on the carpet while True Blue played on the stereo behind them. This contest was a success apparently, as Madonna held another Make My Video for Vogue four years later.

Doing this with 80's editing tech was a feat in and of itself. The 1st runner up wasnt half bad either. Remember when MTV spent an ENTIRE 24 HOURS showing every video they received for this contest? Including half-assed "point a video camera at two toddlers with the song in the background?" Those carefree fun-filled days of amateur victory (and when MTV actually cared about its viewers) are long gone

One of my BFF's from jr high, her brother Billy Fitzgibbon is the cutie in this video and us teeny boppers used to fawn over him lol 😍😍. Thats his senior picture from Coral Gables high, our future high school and where they filmed parts of this video. My folks went there too in the 1950s, so that's interesting to me cuz its been awhile since I watched this. Looks like maybe...Venetian Pool in a clip or 2? I remember his buddy, Angel who produced this and won the contest vaguely but have a memory of him and Billy picking us up or dropping off at 1st beach...aka South Beach and him playing Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb and it was my first time hearing it and loving the song. I wana say thats Angel in the first scene at the soda shop, sitting at the table with jet black hair. Idk if its him or not. He used to wear a jeans jacket with rock star/punk buttons...if my memory is correct? I think that's the Fitzgibbons 'Florida Room' (as peeps used to call them back then) at the end with them sitting on couch. Great job gentlemen and all who worked on it! Bravo 👏 👏 I remember when we all found out they won! Gables forever!! Lol not the school necessarily, but the city!! The jewel of Miami and of the world...imo!

The guy in the jacket, who played the bad boy in the video was named Spencer. I can't remember his last name anymore. The cast, with the exception of the lead girl, (who I believe was Angel's sister) was from the Class of 87' drama 4 class. I can name pretty much everyone in the video. Of course, I had to work that weekend of filming. I believe Spencer had a morning tv show for a little while, but we lost him too soon. We've lost other cast members along way too. Man, it sucks to get old, but memories like this last a lifetime.

And was released BEFORE the end of the competition which was at the end of October 1986. This has always been the fan made version which won that MTV contest, the official video-clip is the one with Madonna in both sides of the Atlantic.

@@consolegamer8871 Well..this win could have been a springboard to the next bigger better things..how often does Geffen give you an office in NYC and say "here, do stuff"..that office went unoccupied and I feel it was a mistake to stay based in S. Florida..that was never going to live up to the mad hype of the Chamber of Commerce and Film Commission, who are still utterly full of shit to this day. So the following music video projects were from B-list back burner artists, very low budget, and not likely to constitute a step upward or even get much airplay. Not exactly a brilliant strategy.
