15 years later after leaving the house for good, this song still touches me. Those 18 years till adulthood were full of fear, torture, & anger from my father because mom left him after he beat her senseless. I got to take her place & so did all of the other women he enticed. I figured after singing this song to the T along with Madonna I could get to a point where I wouldn't tear up, but sometimes I still do. It's hard loving someone you hate simply because they brought you into the world.

Just as a note people, Madonna's father didn't beat or abuse her. He was just a tough rigid old school Italian Catholic. I think Madonna did resent her stepmother though taking the place of Madonna's mother who died when she was 5 yrs old.
