To be honest, these early Madonna demos are mostly better than the released versions. This song and Everybody are two examples of songs that should have stayed as demos that were released.

Even though it is a great, otherworldly, and more ambient track, I think that they wanted a more upbeat track that fit the tone of a "fun" 80s album. It probably would have been too much of an odd track out so they reworked it to a more uptempo song and changed a few lyrics

This is freaking magical. I just found out about the Pre-Madonna album, and it was interesting hearing old tracks and demos of her hits, but just from the first few seconds of this song, it had a much different energy to it and it pulled me in immediately. I hope they can remaster this somehow, but either way it's definitely a new obsession.

This demo is actually NOT from the Like A Virgin sessions. This was from the demo tape she was peddling around; trying to obtain a recording contract (via 1981). She just re-recorded a version (of sorts) of this song for the Like A Virgin album a few years later.

The beginning part sounds like a completely different song, like they're two different songs, really. I think that she should have redone and added an extra minute and a half to the beginning of this version and released it as a single, along with the later version of Stay, which I still happen to like better.
