I grew up in Chennai. My Grandparents, aunts, uncles and all relatives are in & around Tirunelvely & Nagercoil Dist (sout most Tamil Nadu). I had Tirunelveli Halwa, but never Muscoth. My new Brother-in-Law (in 90's) visited us after a trip to Tuticorin (his parents home) with Muscoth Halwa & Macaroon (both sweets my first time). First time I tasted Muscoth Halwa it was soooooo delicious. Top Notch. Never tired of its sweetness. For next few days I also ate it with Idly, Dosa & Chapathi instead of chutney & kormas. When I saw Alondra tasting it I was smiling to myself and my eyes were sweating a little bit too. You can't get rid of its smell and taste from your hand & tongue. Thanks for this recipe. Brought all good old memories. God Bless your Family! Spending 1&1/2hours in cooking 1 dish with toddler.....Kudos to your husband!

Dodol/thothal is famous in TN ramnad (fro. Srilankan) also..and this is famous is tuticorin..also coconut milk is the only similarity between these two sweets..I have tasted both the sweets very often..both tastes entirely different as thothal is made from rice flour..the flour makes a huge difference in taste. Also in thothal ee use karupatti not white sugar..that is also another major flavor difference
