You may have noticed in Spain no statuary of war Heros, just of our famous composers ,poets artists & authors ,in Alcoy a small park named Cervantes . A disgusting act on May23 ,at the end of Francos regime the brave Captain Reginald Davison on the S.S Stanbrook saved @ 2,000 Republicans from certain death ,a bronze bust of him celebrating his ɓravery on display in the port of Alicante was painted with Swastikas, a cleanup job , they loved the destruction of the town of Guernica the furthest reach of Nazi bombers , totally destroyed with many deaths, one of Picasso's last paintings based on the horrors

Clearest explanation I've seen! Sadly, it came out a month after I returned and had figured most of that out by personal experience. Awesome that you note the platform will only host YOUR train, unlike NYC or SFO where multiple lines share your platform.

A tip for the airport transfer to the city center: You can also take the local train from Terminal 4 to Atocha station. This costs €2.60 and the journey takes around 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased from the gray and red ticket machines in the lobby of the station, but the process can be a little confusing. It is much easier if you have a debit or credit card with a contactless payment function. This can be used to pass through the automatic access barrier to the platform. The ticket price is paid directly. It should also work if you pay with a smartphone. As far as I know, the trains run every 30 minutes between 6 a.m. and midnight.

About going to the airport and back, there is a second bus express line (200) that goes from the terminals to Avenida de america in the buisness distric (María de Molina-Castellana) with a stop on Canillejas connecting to metro L5 (to go to the center) and only costs the flat rate of 1.5€ and then is also the option of taking the Cercanías C1 or C10 that take you from the terminals to Recoletos (5 minutes from Cibeles) for the flat rate of 2.5€, and only takes 30 minutes, the only downside is that if you are going from the T1, T2 or T3 you will have to travel to the T4 to catch the Cercanías. Also coment that metro is working to create a direct route from the T4 to atocha in the form of an expansion of the line 11 and a conection with treminals 1,2 and 3 with callao and gran vía in the form of a Line 5 expansion Apart from that very good explanation of the system and specially about the multi card that can be a bit confusing about if it's better to take a 10-Journey or Single tickets.

A good explanation for the metro and for going to the airport is that there are also regular bus lines from the EMT, the public company, and two Cercanías train lines that take you directly to various places and stations in the city, even from outside the city. center.

Hi! Great video guide! I bet people will find it very useful! Just one comment regarding the transport from and to the airport. Right now the metro is being extended so apart of the line 8 also line 5 will reach T123 and line 11 will reach T4, and that will be very useful if you are not going straight to Atocha or Cibeles.

This is really handy - I experienced the daunting underground on my first visit to Madrid only just over a year ago. I had just over an hour to get to the airport and used to underground but got on the loop heading the wrong way my boarding gate was the furthest possible place in the airport - thankfully, made it with just 10mins to go! People were boarding the plane - the closest I've come to missing flight.

Thanks for the video! We used the AirPort Express bus last time we were in Madrid to get to P. De Atocha to head south. We only used it bc the metro was down or there was a strike. However, it turned out to be a great option and didn’t require changes or planning, just a direct shot. We will definitely use it again next time.

James & Yoly, thanks for sharing and educating. When in Madrid in 2019 from the UK, I found the metro quite easy to use, but buying a travel card was quite confusing. Also if you choose the wrong exit from a station, it can totally throw you when you have planned a route, as I found out to my cost. I relied on Google Maps, to plan my route but they were inaccurate as to the exits, as the exit I used wasn't even shown. Thank you both for this guide! ❤

Great info. The Metro probably seems intuitive to the locals, but to tourists it can sometimes be quite cofusing. Just FYI, we use Cercanias quite a lot, mainly because, we usually have long distance train tickets in hand. Most of those tickets are CombinadoCercanias, which means the Cercanias trip is free if used withing 3 to 4 hours of your train trip. A great way to get between the airport (T4), Chamartin or Atocha for free.

about pickpockets, I guess it can be a bit more complicated than that - they also target people who seem distracted, people who are in groups, either the youngest or the oldest people around, and people who look like they might be carrying expensive items. The pickpockets themselves can be of any age, in one story I heard from Madrid he was a very handsome older man, stood close to his targets who thought he might be flirting with them and was caught with his hand in their bag. They have very light hands and sometimes employ distraction tactics, they are pros. We tend to think we are worldly and that it would never happen to us...well, unfortunately they are very daring and very experienced - it pays to be slightly paranoid in this case. Ojo!👁
@alexandreleveille1407 Жыл бұрын
In any major city, especially a tourist destination, I act like I do in my home country in a major city: Keep my purse or bag close and in view, be wary of anyone getting too close, etc. I rarely use my phone in a crowded subway to avoid distractions. Yes, I'm a paranoid city dweller, but it has served me well.

You and Yoli make the most interesting videos about Spain. I'm certain you are making special tours. The Metro in Madrid is the easiest network to figure out, but thank you for helping first time travellers. Personally, I prefer to walk and stay in the center of the city. Day trips to Toledo, Salamanca are easy to schedule via Cercanias trains. From T4 there is a bus the 203 that takes you straight into the center (Banco de España) stop. I believe the last time I took it it was only 5 euros.
