My mother was born in Madrid, New Mexico in 1935. My Great grandfather and Grandfather were both coal miners there in the 30's and 40's. They left New Mexico in 1942 and headed out to California. We went to Madrid in 1996 and found the town quite charming, it brought back many fond memories for my Mom of her childhood.
