The quaint little town of Madrid New Mexico is an hour East of Albuquerque in Santa Fe county. Madrid New Mexico is a recovered ghost town occupied by artists.In its hay day it was a coal mining town and was abandoned when the mines closed.
The movie Wild Hogs was filmed in Madrid New Mexico and the bar built just for the movie still stands. Madrid New Mexico found that being an art alternative to Santa Fe New Mexico is what Madrid does best.

Travel the scenic Turquoise Trail and experience the village of Madrid nestled in a narrow canyon in the Ortiz Mountains. Once a historic coal mining town and ghost town, Madrid is now a creative community with over 40 shops and galleries, several restaurants, a spa and museum. A couple miles north is the quaint village Cerrillos that includes a state park with hiking paths and horseback riding.

Lived in Madrid in 1982 and our 2nd son was born there. It wasn't anywhere near as commercial as it is now. It was just a sleepy little town with a few artisans, a baker, a few artists, t-shirt silk screener and a grocery store. A fun kind of community.

It has grown. But it still has its small art town vibe.... I love to go for a day trip and just relax in the peaceful atmosphere.

Oh how I miss New Mexico! If there was any way to re-relocate there, I would. I have lived in Albuquerque 3 different times; and I lived on the same street for those times: Wilmoore Drive SE! I also lived in Belen and Las Cruces. Could you do more videos of NM?
