I’ve been fishing for 30 years and this series is single handedly the best instructional information I have seen. When I was a young lad before the days of the internet I lost my patients with fly fishing. I had no idea that the line combination all the way to the fly was so critical. Big box stores have no clue! I’m in Utah and Mad River will be getting my business from now on. These video should not be free they are so good! That says a lot about these individuals and their love of the sport!❤ absolutely the best business model ever!

Finland here. I just started fishing this year with spinning rods and jigging or spinning for perch. Newbie as I was, I walked in to the closest local fisher supply store asking heaps of question, what equipment might be best and whatnot. The sales guy kindly told me they are mainly dealing equipment for fly fishing. After taking few items for common use (net, hemostat etc) the guy asked me what I am fishing for. Mentioned I have been enjoying aiming for perch. He gives me a fly (neon pink head, black body, pink feathers at the end): "Find a way to cast it and I guarantee they will strike this fly.". Left the fly sitting in my lure box for some time. Did not wrap my head around how to make it cast-able without scaring fish off in 1 km radius. Then one evening, while walking home past the piers, where the locals have their sailing boats, and having caught no fish with the blinker, wobbler, you name it, I made a stop and unpacked the fly (I mean, I did not catch anything, what else can go wrong?). Took about 50cents of braided dark green line, attached 1g of lead right at the beginning of the "fly leader" (forgive me) and did a check in front of me, to see how the fly behaves, sinks etc.. Alright, did the cast and reached maybe 5 m :D ... reeled in very slow with pauses. And strike, first cast. I think that was the moment, throughout the summer I caught mainly perch and quite many of them with the fly (still on the spinning rod). That sort of made me walk back in to the fly fishing store and purchase a ready-to-fish fly rod set. I have to say that I am by far not yet able to cast far, most places here also don't allow up-casts. But tackling a medium or even small perch on the fly road is a hell of blast. But I agree, me too, I had those biases about fly fishing being hard to find access to and requires traveling to places where you find the optimal conditions to do those great and fancy casts. No need, I walk out of the door, 5 minutes to the closest shoreline here at the baltic sea and cast my 10m (if at all, since I get smaller perch already much closer). Might not look as impressing as the solitude between mountains and crystal clear knee high glacier water, but that is of course part of the faux image, right? :) Thanks for the great tips and getting-started guide. Answered a large amount of question marks that literally did not even pop up in my head. Subbed

Sorry for asking what is probably a dumb question, but I'm assuming that if I add tippet to a leader, that I add the same size tippet to the leader. For example, if I have a 2x leader that needs to be lengthened, I then add 2x tippet to the leader. Is that correct? Thanks
