the less rounds of swiss actually makes sense: 5 rounds for 32 players is to get a distinct 1st place with 4 rounds you cannot get a distinct 1st place 'fairly' but top 8 is still the 8 players that did the best in 4 rounds

You'd be surprised how friendly players are in the OCG. Most of the people I just met end up being long lasting friends. Probably because I just give away some of my cards.

For the one store that I participated in one of a few tournaments. It was intense and fun. I got fourth place and my bujin deck at the time went 2:1 against dracoslayer. I was actually really close to winning the match. Which would have put me in third. Of course there was one sided matches. But of all the things. The dracoslayer guy who was fat. Didn't make it to first if recall correctly. Which was a shame because we both had a very good Yu-Gi-Oh. But i was happy at fourth. At the time the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh where hard for me. For years i had no one to really play with and before the store. Some very unhealthy friends manipulating me. I of course knew things. I wasn't actually bad at the game. But i genuinely had no faith. That fourth place for me. Will forever be important because it really showed how strong of a duelist i actually was. When people talk about the difference when it comes to ocg vs tcg. It mainly comes down to sales. Its the unfortunate truth. Tcg is sales oriented. But tcg players want what ocg players have. The latest card sets, communication, fair prices, and a higher stardard of quality control. Maxx c aside (because different banlist foster different competive environments). The issue i when i read ocg players on Reddit, is that they seem dismissive to this. Sure, we may have things they want. And you know what. Happy to share, but at the same time. Admit that konami does treat the ocg differently from ocg. Proof is in the card pool. We all have our hands in it.

This is why free simulators will forever be the true backbone of YGO, as opposed to nostalgia/addiction.
@LoboCrepuscularZelda Жыл бұрын
From my experience, I haven't seen OCG players denying KONAMI treats better the OCG than TCG, quite opposite. If anything, they only raise issue with the TCG players when they are treated for fools, or overtly condescendingly, due to the differences in competitive gameplay. Granted the regional split, that's because Mr. Head of the TCG, Kevin Tewart, wants the Japanese several meters away from his work area. Look no further than Master Duel to see the difference in treatment, starting with it being OCG-compliant despite being a global game

Holy shit why is prize support in TCG so bad when it's incredible in Japan?
@Fencer_Nowa Жыл бұрын
Way more competition for other card games. In the west we realistically have Yu-Gi-Oh, magic or Pokémon to play. Decks also average 300 in Yu-Gi-Oh minimum meaning konami know most players won't leave because they've sunk alot of money into playing at a competitive level
@MajorCrasher Жыл бұрын
@@Fencer_Nowa I never thought about that, but that's a great point 🤔
@IamGrimalkin Жыл бұрын
These were unofficial tournaments. Like the PPG in the west, which did have better prize support.
@peternishimura Жыл бұрын
OCG prize support is not that great when you're talking about official tournaments. You get tournament packs, which only contain 2 cards, one of which could potentially be a super. If you get first place, you get a promotional pack containing a parallel rare version of two of those supers. Prize support for yugioh day, the day new sets drop, is much better. You can get deck boxes and playmats.
@MajorCrasher Жыл бұрын
@@peternishimura I guess that's better if you prefer getting playable cards. But getting 400 bucks for winning a 32 person tournament sounds way better to me, because then you can just buy the cards you want.
