How To Make An Ultimate Calligraphy Pen

Hey guys, it’s Wednesday and I’m back with another DIY and as promised here is the advanced calligraphy pen. I’m surprisingly very happy with the way it has turned out. It is easy to use and it definitely holds more ink than the previous one. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you have to check the previous video where I made a simple calligraphy pen using only Ice cream sticks. It’s all about practice, try different strokes and you’ll fall in love with this art form.

Absolutely! Some of the world's best calligraphers still use pens which they make by shaping reeds, which are woody and similar to bamboo. It's a method that dates back thousands of years. Calligraphy in Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Latin, and _many_ other ancient scripts - and many pieces done by some of the greatest calligraphers who ever lived - were and are still done with reeds.

Thank you very much for this video, I just loved it! There is a tip, if you attach it to an ink bottle, then you will be able to write with an almost infinite amount of ink, non-stop.

I've made calligraphy pens by shaping bamboo or reeds - similar to your popsicle stick pens - and they work well. Reeds have been used for calligraphy for thousands of years. The key to making your wooden pen hold ink is to cut a small slit with a razor down the center of the nib along the grain of the wood, or with reeds you purposely split the nib using a knife and a firm tap. Your soda can nib seems to work well! Though I have dozens of professional nibs, I still love my reed pens, and I might try making one using this method of yours. As an artist, I get a lot of satisfaction out of making things myself - I've even made my own ink. Anyways, excellent video! 👍
