Unfortunately that isn't true. SNL didn't last longer because of popularity -- it's because the producers of that show are incredibly rich people who literally forbid the writers from ever writing material that would possibly offend any brands or companies.

Think of how many amazing & talented people never got to be known because these type of skit shows notoriously had huge gaps of "not funny" material, but mostly the casting of these shows IE-SNL aka Flopcenteral had no vision. It's why we have 4 or 5 actual celebs come out of that show instead of hundreds to pass through.
