Great musical Genius Sri. Madurai Somu sir, All the contemporary musicians respected him & his music. Very humble respectful Sangeetha vidwan.He had high regards & respects and had excellent friendship with my grandfather kalaimamani Cuddalore m Subramaniam. I was told that he sang one of my grandfather's composition SriGanapathim in his concert. His music will be alive forever.

Madurai Somu was a great genius. In the era of great legends like Mani iyer,GNB, Semmangudi,Alathur brothers to name a few, Somu created a unique place for himself. Somu had his unique style of rendering. The only regret for me is the Brahmin Sangeetha maestros did not recognise him. His music will always live. Long live his fame .

Yes. He was not recognized. Music Academy supported Sudha Aruna Sairam Sowymya as superior to Madurai Somu. Even today he can be conferred by accepting the mistake they made in not recognizing. If Somu is not Sangeetha Kalanithi who else is fit

@@krishnakumarsubramaniam9819 If there is a system of Posthumas award is in place, probably, Madurai S Somasundaram ஐயா may have been given. I think that the Academy rendered PrAyachittam by having his Photo as a mark of Centenary Celebratioms of Dr. Somu. By the way, many Brahmin Musicians were ignored y the Academy. What must be kept in mind is non- award by Academy to those deserved the Award did not bring any Loss to those Gems. You may be surprised to know GNB faced a lot of hurdles before Academy recognised him. The list may go on and on and on. Dr. SOMU Sir did more than what was expected of him, to his Guru nathar Chittur ஐயா.

I don't believe this. Many truly deserving TR Mahalingam and MD Ramanathan were also not conferred. It only means you did not make many friends in the sabha at the time. Its just fashonable to blame brahmins for all ills - like they do the jews. Who stopped you from getting him a padmavibhushana - since you guys have so much sway in the government- that doesnt give an rat about merit anyway? why aspire for an award of a private Sabha. Having said all this- I'm an ardent devotee of Mr Somu - from the day I heard his Sive Pahimam.

While I do agree that the Music Academy ignored him, his not being. a Brahmin did not affect his vidwat being appreciated. My uncle had a trust called Venkateswara Bhakta samajam in Perambur in which we used to take active part when we were young. We used to have discourses during Purattasi urchavam, by Sri TSB Sastrigal, Pulavar Keeran, Sri Kribhananda Vaariyar etc and on the last Saturday always have Sri Madurai Somu's concert. The Vivekananda hall used to be filled with people 2 hrs before his concert. Appreciation for his music transcended caste.

If people don't mistake, would like to add. I saw Somu sir name as pillai. I have a general idea that Pillai gentlemen are /were great in tamil. Example VaVuSi. Would request more of them to involve in tamil language, carnatic music and other cultural activities. I'm not anyway trying to be castesit. Pl pardon if someone is offended🙏 All having talent should come forward to culture. Another reason for Somu sirs command over tamil language could be because he may hailing from Tirunelveli

Then raga mallika. 4. Anyone else has done ragamalika for this kruti? 5.excellent violin, mridangam. 6. I'm a lay man 7. Madurai Somu appears to be the first one to do improvisation. 8 kunnakudi followed Somu?or vice versa?or independent? Great to hear
