There’s worse things to be in life than an overtly doting father madly in love with his child. Hughes is one of the happiest characters in the show. Even though he’s in the thick of the plot, aware, if but vaguely, of the impending doom, almost every time you see him he’s happy and excited and glad to be alive. The rest of the characters scoff and laugh and consider him a little annoying, but they’re just fools laughing at a wise man.

Funny story, when I was first watching Full metal alchemist (2003), I had already heard of Brotherhood, but didn't know exactly what it was, my only guess was that it was a sequel (like Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, though I don't remember If I had seen either at that point), so when Hughes died, I didn't think much of it, I just assumed he was going to get revived at some point since I knew he was in Brotherhood. Yeah, that couldn't have been anymore wrong.

What hits me the most about Hughes' death was that his personality and overly goofy attitude reminds me of my dad. He even looks like him too.
