How does Illayaraja compose such masterpieces? I am amazed at How one person can conceive and bring together so many musical instruments? And he is from an early generation . He requires a simple harmonica to conceptualize and then brings other instuments at the right place and time !. Without all the fuss new age musicians create these days over mixing , signal processing etc , right from 70's this man has been entertaining tamil audiences with absolute innumerable melodies. He is unparalleled and is gifted soul... Mediums have been changing Radio, cassette, CD, DVD, MP3,cloud etc but I only prefer his songs in all as it touches the soul ! Hats off to Illayaraja sir.! And I am writing this after 8 years after it was uploaded in youtube which shows his creations are timeless!

Isaiyil Thodanguthamma’ is based on Hamsanadam.But it has flavours of Saranga Tharangini, Shudh Sarang and to a certain extent Yaman Kalyan as well. Hamsanadam is again a very interesting Raga and as per the older Raga texts this Raga is derived from the 60th Melakartha Neethimathi having six Swaras in the ascent and descent.But over a period of time it became a pentatonic Raga with just 5 Swaras.. ‘Isaiyil Thodanguthamma’ is yet another proof of Raja’s iguana like grip on Laya(rhythm). It is set to the 7 beat Mishram. In the prelude and the interludes, the pattern is played in a fast pace(called as ‘Mel Kaalam’) and here the Master divides the 14(7x2) as ThaKaDhiMi ThaKa ThaKaDhiMi ThaKaDhiMi that is 4 2 4 4.. In the vocal part, it is played as 3 4- ThaKiTa ThaKaDhiMi.

Some of you people have no idea on what is live singing like.. Ofcoz hari ji didn't didn't do justice like the original singer.. But this is every difficult song to do live. With the sangathis and stuff.. But hari ji manage to pull it thru. Definitely not flawless but he made justice..

Suren D, This is not a reality show contestant. This is Hari Haran. So, expectations were high. All we are saying is he did not do any justice to the beauty of this song. It need not sound like original, Hariji need not imitate and give 100% output as Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. BUT the flavor and the nuances of the song need to be intact for the listener. And Hariji butchered it!
