Here is the Italian Baritone Franco Pagliazzi (Florence, Italy 8 April 1937-11 May 2018).
Only surviving fragment of a beautifull Performance including tenor Luigi Infantino as Canio and Rina Gigli as Nedda.
Tonio was (together with Rigoletto), a role he sung in Italy a lot, including 2 productions in Napoli San Carlo (1968 & 1972), Firenze Teatro Comunale with Riccardo Muti (1971), Sassari 1970 together with Angelo Loforese and also France, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia.
In this Clip you can see some nice Photos with his teacher Maestro Ettore Campogalliani at the piano , Tenor Gianfranco Cecchele in Aida, Bilbao 1964, photos of the recording Sessions of Il Trovatore Supraphon/Fabbri in Praga, 8-15 January 1968 and some other artistic Photos from Performances as Rigoletto (Firenze, Sofia, Napoli, Orange, Faenza with M° Ino Savini) , Don Carlo (Dublin), Tonio (Napoli), Ballo in Maschera.

Never heard of this guy. He is an amazing singer, right up there with the great baritones, Bastianinni, Guelfi, Gobbi, Warren, to mention a few. Another underrated singer that never got the recognition he deserved.

Why haven't I have heard of this guy? What a blazing top!! I was in Italy when he was singing. Where the hell was he? I was just listening to baritones on KZbin yesterday. I had pretty much decided that Thomas Hampson was the most disappointing baritone before the public. I've heard Hampson live many times and he is just as disappointing in the flesh as he is on records. There are some singers whose voices bloom on top and there are others whose voices don't. Verdi and Puccini knew this. They wrote their big arias to exploit this feature in human voices. They would have loved Franco. I can't understand how Pagliazzi evaded stardom.

Patrick Boyle He was my maestro in Italy, Florence. He had sung 20 years as baritone and 20 years as dramatic tenor. actually, Wonderful singer!

MAJOR VOICE! Reminds me somewhat of prime McNeil. Beautifully balanced registers and even production bottom to top, with one of the best Ab's I've heard from any baritone. Beyond that, he has real feeling. Very, very beautiful! Is anyone singing like this today?

Non so proprio come ho fatto nel perdermi siffatto baritono. Peccato. Ascoltare la voce registrata falsa l' ascolto. I cantanti vanno giudicati nei teatri con davanti l' orchestra e senza microfoni. Il baritono in una foto,in un concerto accompagnato dal grande maestro Campogalliani ( mio maestro). Voce possente, intonata.musicale, che non cambia registro. Nella registrazione un poco tremula (registrazione?) Mi dispiace non averlo ascoltato.

Couldn't break thru the MMM barrier, I suppose. Years earlier, another great baritone whom the Met ignored was no less than Gino Bechi. Ah, but then there was Warren, but still, even the great LW could not sing every night!!!

Yes, he is alive & a respected vocal coach/voice teacher in Firenze. I have a CD of his debut in Rigoletto, at the quite earky age of 26 - magnificant!
