Anyone know the occasion/inspiration/composer notes for this piece? Has a sort of fantasy/whimsical feel to it. Also who knew that solo tuba & oboe (or is that English horn?) would pair so well?

Yeah this concerto fascinates me because not only does it abuse tuba techniques I've never seen, but orchestral too. I would love to see a composition breakdown by the composer

Yes, Mr. Canada (the soloist) gets such a magnificent range out of whatever he is playing. I wish everyone who posts a performance would list what instrument they are playing. Glad I stumbled on this; I have never previously heard of either the soloist, ensemble or the composer! All quite excellent.
