I didn't play the earlier ones so I can't compare but I liked mafia 3, good story and storytelling with smooth driving and combat mechanics. I actually wish GTA would incorporate some aspect of the driving physics from mafia 3 because you can feel the weight of the car affecting the handling etc

The missions themselves are actually very well constructed and in no way repetitive. The side missions however, which are mandatory for you to progress to the story missions, do tend to be repetitive, but the stealth mechanics are very good, so I have no complaints about the game.
