It was an interesting idea on the part of the developers not to translate the Italian speech, but to provide it with Italian subtitles (even in the English version of the game, as in any other). But I would like to know what they are saying. Although the lack of translation in these moments, given that the main character, whom we control, does not understand what is being said, gives a certain special charm. As, in principle, in the case of Max Payne 3 and already Portuguese in the case of this game.

@@hanselvogis7301 there are two different definitions on what a "dialect" is (see Wikipedia page). What an Italian (or French) means when it refers to "dialetto", is very different from what you're used to. Basically a dialetto is a local language that's spoken in very colloquial situations or family, not a variety of Italian. Depending on the region, dialetto may be used a lot or very little (like only by old people), but when you speak Italian you speak Italian. This different definition of dialect creates some confusion and some foreigners think Italians from different or far away regions can't understand each other but that's 100% not true, Italian is Italian.

I loved the game but, as Italian, I think the voice acting of this chapter was terrible. An Italian native speaker can easily notice that Salvatore is dubbed by a non native speaker who is basically reading some sentences in Italian without even knowing their meaning. Both accent and intonation sound weird and this totally ruins the atmosphere. And it's a pity since the game cares so much about details... Maybe letting a real Italian actor (with a strong Sicilian or Neapolitan accent) would have done the trick.

How he descripes in the plan that the safe is behind a painting in the first floor and than checks the first painting at the entrance is just hilarious stupid mistake from the developers 😂😂😂

I would have preferred that in the english version Salvatore was dubbed by a competent italian actor, maybe even sicialian, not just some random guy took from the studio that doesn't even know where the accent falls in the words

I don't speak italian, but i speak spanish, so i could understand most of what he said. It's pretty similar

I remember how annonying the first line during the driving is, because if you crash onto something Salvatore would comment on your bad driving and goes back to the beginning of the first line again and again. Worst is I aint Italian so cant comprehend

I figured out "Cassaforte" by myself, But I thought in the beginning he was saying something about opening safes being like tuning a piano, heh.

Better than I managed. I was legitimately prepared to play a piano to unlock the painting to reveal the safe.

Per fortuna che i dialoghi fuori dalla cinematica sono in italiano.... Nella versione italiana salvatore parla in dialetto siculo (per chi non è siciliano, è difficile da capire....) Comunque bella traduzione

So Salvatore was warning us about alarm from first? It's so funny and ridiculous at the same time

If you read the subtitles and listen, you can faintly hear him speaking English.

In the italian version of game, the english dialogues are spoken in standard italian and Salvatore is dubbed in sicilian dialect.
Thank you! I couldn't find online what that word meant.

It's annoying how they could have done it right without understanding each other - Salvatore should have said "alarm" and push him away, and Tommy should have communicated there are men outside.

Man they blew the english voice acting so hard, he actually speaks in (arguably broken) sicilian in the italian dub.

Is funny to play the mission with the Italian game version. In the Italian game, the Italians parts are replaced with the Sicilian language and the American English is replaced with the Italian (standard).
@john221b62 жыл бұрын
I like the fact that they wanted to include some genuine Italian dialogues. But it's clear the guy playing Salvatore is a foreigner! Couldn't they find a real native speaker? I mean just ask the studio which is going to localise it to Italian to lend you a voice actor! Sofia from AC revelations is so far the best authentic Italian accent in a videogame!

Referring to the german subtitles, Salvatore asks Tommy, if he speaks at Least a little Sicilian. My Italian is not so good since I only had Latin in school, but even I could tell that Salvatore speaks Italian, not Sicilian.

ive never played mafia 1 or even mafia classic and i dont speak a word of italian but even though, im able to pickout whatever he says from the context of the mission and some words like : Labirinto: Labyrinth/Maze Pinto: i didnt get this until i saw the actual paintings Allarme: they shouldve made tommy know at least this word, it's literally the same word as alarm with less letters

Forza in this regard is not "Muscle" or "Come on" as some suggested. In this regard its, "Faster, we need to go!"

I am playing this mission right now. Came here cause I was curious and am playing it while I play the mission, but for the love of god even >I< could tell Salvatore was trying to tell me there'd be an alarm! Tho to be fair I also thought he was telling me there was some secret involving a piano so.... I guess I shouldn't judge too hard.
