The discussion about the wrist comparison between MAGs and Prime’s handles was a welcome surprise. A lot of people say to just go Prime but it’s great to have a legitimate reason to still go MAG.

It's not something I realized out the gate myself. I've got 5+ years of MAG use and over a year of Prime use. And I think it took up until recently for me to appreciate that piece to the puzzle with them side by side.

@GrayMatterLifting

@@bigk2080 I mention them in my article. They look pretty dang close. You are likely going to have similar grips, angles, and widths, and be down to one of two considerations. 1) durability... The MAGs crushed it and last forever. Would be interesting to see how those hold up. 2) whether you want to support the original creator and a small American Family business, or a knock off import. MAGs obviously being my choice, but I understand building a gym on a budget.

Haven't tried the knockoffs. I have a few MAGs and a 4n1. The MAGs are by far and away my preference. I prefer the rubbery coating over the textured plastic by a long shot and feel like the MAGs just contour and lock me into the grip better.

Very informative video. I picked up a supinated Med MAG and I like it a lot. I have the Rot-8 plus short bar. I like the paddles on the MAG much better but like the range of motion I can get from the Rot-8. I recently bought the EliteFTS American Cambered cable attachment after using it at EliteFTS. It is beefy and hard to store but the grip options are great.

I tried a set of knockoffs. They came all beat up with metal showing and the ergonomics were way off from the genuine Mag Grips at my gym. I know some rave about their knockoffs and perhaps I went with a bad brand but I decided to just bite the bullet and get the genuine product. Got the med pronate, medium supinate and narrow supinate. I still use normal attachments because I can use straps with them but the MagGrips get frequent use too.

That bottom handle of the knockoffs is a supinated grip, at least that’s how I’ve been using it for years. Feels great to me. I had a medium pronated mag grip prior and I didn’t like how it forced me to bend my wrists in, found it uncomfortable for rows.

@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 9 ай бұрын
You know I was wondering that honestly. The pictures on Amazon have one of them backwards. It wasn't inherently clear because nothing is labeled, and the angles on the handles don't do the same thing the MAGs do. So I was playing with them and kept gravitating to them being the same. But I was honestly not positive. I almost cut that piece from the video. There are always people with different structures and feelings. I've met a handful of people who didn't like any of them. I didn't enjoy the knock offs, but I'm always going to say... Do what works for you and your gym. Glad you found the right thing for you dude.

Thanks for reviewing all these. I don’t even look at the prime fitness website because of the cost. Not all of the knockoffs have to be purchased as a set. I bought just the medium neutral grip attachment from York Barbell, and I am very happy with it and the cost. I’m more of a minimalist and don’t want 20 plus attachments. So for narrow grips, I just use 2 regular d handles. But maybe someday I’ll get one of the narrow real mag grips.

I have all the MAG grips, I even bought the 3/4 grip over here in Germany after I saw your video about it. Otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it. Meanwhile I'm thinking about selling them all and just keep the Klevabuilt Atlas Grip. What are your thoughts on the Atlas?
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 8 ай бұрын
I think you have some pros and cons with the Atlas. Incredibly well built. Aesthetic as hell. Gives a decent amount of options in one go. But in my option, for my gym, I'd rather have 6 attachments that are great at what they do individually, than one attachment that is ok at doing 6 things. When I look at the Atlas, I just see a neutral grip pulldown. I still gotta strap up. I don't have the unique paddle handle pull. I don't have supination and pronation. It just doesn't get me going. Kleva makes some gorgeous stuff, I'm just not interested in a jack of all trades cable attachment.

If you are going for ONLY one attachment, I'm taking the Medium Supinate all day. But I will saw the Close Grip Supinate might be my favorite PURELY Lat Pulldown cable attachment. So if you never plan to do seated rows or anything like that, it is a solid option for a truly unique feeling.

The only issue I have with the OG MAGs (which appears to be the case with all of these) is the lack of any knurled grip. I find that my grip slips as soon as my hands get the slightest bit sweaty, meaning I can’t go heavy and I find them not Versa-Gripps friendly.
