Magazine in 1980 was SO brilliant live. On top of my giglist. I did see Magazine with John Mc Geogh... Lucky me.

This was the era of 'lead bass' player. All those guys like Burnel, Foxton, Pete Hook, Bruce Thomas and Barry Adamson all coming up with these great lines that you could play on your cheap Fender copy and impress your mates. Brilliant!

Devoto's lyrics are proper modern existentialist poetry and his word-plays are very clever. This contains one of my favourite lines: 'and I open up like a sliding door, oh so oblique and easy, oh you're so bleak and easy'.

I work in one of the last indie record stores in London. Have spent the last 20 years telling people that this is pretty much the best song ever. Great lyrics, awesome bassline, even the synth solo rules. Give Me Everything, I Salute You.

Wow! So awesome to see Magazine live after all these years. I lived in Christchurch New Zealand in the 80s, and Magazine were booked to play the town hall. My best friend & I raced out to buy tickets and were full of antici....pation, but...! A few weeks before the gig, it was cancelled due to low ticket sales - arghh!!!! So God bless youtube for all the live clips of one of the greatest bands to walk this earth!

Magazine - Give Me Everything i do know there's a live new Zealand concert officially on sale... it's not the band's best but it goes some way to conveying a live show. i am surmising these dolts just record them when the band are shagged out or when they know they're not at their finest. probably best bet to some how bull them up within themselves and fill 'em full of drugs and then get them to give the fans a show..

F'ING GREAT! Back in the late 70's a very hip friend in L.A. intro'd me to Magazine. I've been addicted ever since. Even now I have about six of their tracks on my iPod that I must listen to periodically, and this song is the top of the list. Have always loved it! Thanks for posting!!

Was also at this concert at Festival Hall way back then. I beleve the line-up was The Models (a non starter),The Flowers, Magazine and XTC. Only went to see XTC but was blown away by Magazine and have been a fan ever since.Have been to many gigs over the years but this one just stays with me. Thanks for posting the clip, many happy memories evoked.

Barry's riff on this track made me go out and buy a Westone Thunder bass, a BOSS bass chorus and compressor. Standout, superb track, unmatched.

A great, great band that never got their true acclaim. So what's new ? I saw them perform in 1979. and they were note perfect. Barry Adamson is in the same league as Bootsy Collins and Flea, he is a true master.

SO cool! I've been a fan of this band since a good friend turned me on to them in my L.A. days. I'd recently added this particular song to my iPod and was listening to it today, and it occurred to me to do a search on KZbin for Magazine. Low and behold. My eternal gratitude to you for posting this vid! Now it will be a treat to view the other Magazine vids here!

Why is there no bass tabs for Magazine on the internet!!! What a wealth of bass lines the man Adamson has produced. I've figured out a few: Permafrost (quite easy but quite brilliant),My Mind Ain't So Open, Feed The Enemy and I'm working this one out now. But I'm only one man, All you tabbers out there, get of your high horse tabbing them 3 note rubbish ones you get today and tab some more of the monumental Barry Adamsons. Oh my heart weeps...

Yeah, that's right. This song is a peerless classic. Maybe it's the emotional intensity that some people can't handle, certainly it must have been exhausting to perform.

When was this performance? HD looks a wee bit older and baldier than the really early clips I've seen from 77 - 78. I see the clip is from German TV channel WDR - any info on the show? Was it a whole concert by Magazine? If so where can it be got hold of?

@chrisnoaro1 I see what you mean, although it's played to the rhythm of Three blind mice, the notes are actually slightly different, very similar admittedly! But in all honesty, I can hear nothing special in this, bass playing wise. Great track though. Are you familar with the band Cindytalk? Cindytalk was/is really Gordon Sharps' project. He also contributed to This Mortal Coil & Cocteau Twins. There's some of their stuff here on youtube. Have a listen, I suspect you may find them interesting.

@foff4strings I do rate Adamson, nearly as good as Derek Forbes but none of these "bass" players have a truly bassy sound. If you're into lead bass playing then you can't get much better than Hendrix's on All along the watchtower. Yes it's Hendrix on bass. Great bassists don't insist on forcing themselves on you, rather they insinuate their way in. Often you feel the note more than you hear it. So much so that a wrong note doesn't necessarily matter, providing it's not off rhythm.

Fcukin' POWERHOUSE you lot were, in your hey-day! Too bad I was born too late and on the fcukin' wrong side of the pond. Missed ALL of it. Fcukin' A-L-L of it. Aaarghh! :'( 'It's times like these' I worship youtube and the like. How fcukin' TIGHT were these guys, as a unit - force unto itself, band. Just … blimey!! Whoa...oh! 1,000,000,000 / 10

@chrisnoaro1 P Orridge? As a bass player? I think either you're on a wind up or trying to be controversial! He was never about making music for the love of music. I'm sure you're well aware that he was always about sonic experimentation. Using the audience as guinea pigs (what happens if I do this?) to induce a collective orgasm, hallucination, euphoria, panic attack, hatred, whatever. Never knowingly melodic or even danceable. Very interesting and highly intelligent individual though
