Your mage knight video was the first play through I ever watched back in 2012 and mage knight was the first modern board game I bought on the back of your play through. 6 years later I have a collection of about 300 games, have introduced my partner to gaming as well as countless of my friends. Over these years your videos of have been a constant source of valuable knowledge and have encouraged me to buy masterpieces like war of the ring and battle of the five armies and cruel necessity. Your contribution to the community is huge and of great benefit. I have never met you but through your videos you have become part of the household (my partner will hum along to your theme music when I click on one of your videos). Seeing this as your latest video produced a heartfelt emotional response to realise what a journey I have been on with you over the last 6 years and how clicking on your mage knight video 6 years ago on a whim when searching for a new way to relax and unwind from the stress of modern life allowed me to open up to this wonderful world of board games. I'm really looking forward to this series. You did such a great job on the original Mage Knight series and Frontiers too. The first Mage Knight series was one of the first playthroughs for a board game that I watched something like 4 years ago, and got me interested in the game. I never picked it up, but I've been seriously considering the Ultimate edition and this may finally push me over the edge.

Ultimate Edition looks like the existing game with all the expansions, plus "5 new cards" (?) and alternte paint job minis (just new minis?) .. I wonder what the 5 new cards are; but it doesn't sound worth it (probably $70-$100 at a wild guess) for just 5 cards, if we already have the expansions :(

But I could have sworn I had seen this selling of five cards mentioned on a forum and yes I do believe they were going to sell the cards exclusively on their website. I was thinking this. You could have used swiftness to kill one enemy as they only gain the shielded effect once in an order of your choice. So then the second token having already used its ability would only need attack 2 to kill (or 1 if fully blocked). Which you could do with the remaining 5 cards in hand although pretty inefficiently. I would be tempted to clear them both in one go had you remembered the fame boost at the start just for the level up and to catch up on cards used with the dummy player.

Just got Mage Knight Ultimate Edition. Sort of confused. What confuses me is the sheer amount for stuff. Separating between expansions and in the best way for setup using the storage solution that comes in the box. I just want to learn with base game for now. Was watching where u teach how to play but as it is years ago it assumes you have the base game. Idk just do where to start. Usually have had no issues learning anything.

forget what’s in the box. just start with the walkthrough document and follow along with it. it will tell you what you need

Wouldnt both the sprites attack you having they have ambush!? And I thought you dont get reward tokens from the first 2 enemies with rampage? I thought these 2 were the only ones that aren't elementalists.

The rampaging enemies placing on starting tiles during setup do not get Ambush, but they are still Elementalists, and defeating an Elementalist gets you a minor magical item token.

@Ricky Royal. I am interested in this expansion but the online retailer I usually buy from has a warning saying "There are some issues/problems in using this expansion with the base game. They don't say what though. Do you know of any........Really love your videos and have watched loads. Also bought many games after seeing your videos.IMHO yours is the best board game channel out there by far. Thanks.

i use it without any concerns; some folks were not happy about the smaller monster tokens, but I like them, as it makes them easier to separate. I think some folks felt the cards backs were a different shade of colour, or maybe darker/lighter, but maybe my eyes are less discerning as I don't find them significantly different that it alters the game in any way, so I think this one is more subjective and a personal thing. They should be Elementalists too; all are Elementalists, but the ones placed during setup do not get the Ambush Ability, as per the rules: "When placing rampaging enemies pick from the Elementalist pile. Except for those on the tiles placed during set up, these enemy tokens gain the Ambush ability." Hope this helps! R.R>

​@@smargith I see; that makes sense now: you are looking at the "THE REALM OF THE DEAD" scenario special instructions. Those are applicable only when playing that scenario. There are a few scenarios in the game, and each comes with its own special instructions that alter the game in some way. Hope this helps! Have fun with the game, and thanks for watching! Ricky.

It's ok you just gave yourself a small handicap because you're such a pro 😉
