In this episode of Solo Playthroughs, Greg returns to the Mage Knight Board Game: Shades of Tezla expansion with a playthrough of the Realm of the Dead. The mighty Tovak sets forth into the Atlantean countryside with the mission of confronting the growing power of the Necromancer, Faction Leader of the Dark Crusaders. And Tovak knows just where to start: The Graveyards. Once they are liberated and the dark power within them sealed, Tovak will march on to the Necropolis, the seat of the Necromancer's power, for an epic showdown. But the Necromancer is growing ever more unassailable, giving Tovak only two Days and two Nights to vanquish him before it will be too late. Does Tovak have what it takes!?

When placing rampaging enemies in this scenario, they are always dark crusader faction enemies and not the regular green/red enemy tokens. This is done similarly in other shades of tezla scenarios.

Nevermind. Just found it in the Special Rules section. Thanks for pointing this out! It makes it even more curious that more faction enemies weren’t included with this expansion. 🙂

Love to see a little Tezla. But my god is the black mana rule in the graveyard such a headache. Why even bother with sealing the graveyard at all? Oh well, I like that you upload the video with rule mistakes and all with explanations. Missing a rule is just a part of the Mage Knight experience. I've been playing Mage Knight almost every day on board game simulator. I've gotten very comfortable with solo conquests 8-11. At my best games I can score in the 240s. My question is how do I scale the difficulty from here with megapoli?

Hey Hammy! Yeah - the rules around the graveyard/sealing are silly, but I'm open to the possibility that there is something in the source material of Mage Knight that I'm missing. :) Unfortunately, whatever the reason, it's so abstract that it just feels like the game is arbitrarily making me lose a mana. As for scaling to Megapolis, that's awesome that you're crushing 8-11! Either 8-12 or 9-12 would be a great next step. To make a Megapolis, you just need to draw two city cards (NOT Volkare's camp) and then take the level 6 garrison of both cities and join them together. Every enemy has the benefits of both city cards. A blue-red Megapolis tends to be the most awful, so I wouldn't blame you for intentional avoiding that one for a while. :)

I think I've reached a point where I can start guessing which cards you'll be wanting before you say it. When snowstorm revealed, yep, you'll want that. When ice bolt came out, yep, you'll want that one too. And then magic familiars (though you didn't pick them up!). This is a nice scenario, having never seen it before. A few times I got lost when you were changing things around with rules mistakes etc. But yeah, having fun trumps all else, and glad you got through in the end, especially with a snowstorm, ice bolt etc.

Hey Josh! Yeah - this one got a little weird, which is always a little more likely to happen when I just jump into a scenario I haven't played in a while like I did here. :) Funny that you can read my mind when I look at the offers! One of the drawbacks of playing at higher levels for as long as I have is that you just know what you need to get something accomplished, which does take out some of the "discovery" that I love in games. Still, Mage Knight still has a way to surprise me with new synergies now and again!
