@@MagentaOtterTravels Part of my job involves gong around the city centre late at night looking for people with substance issues who may be in trouble from overdose - anyways, I few weeks ago, we found someone in that area behind where you were sitting on the wall - I don't know if you remember, but there was a 1 story drop behind you to a lower level? Well, he was there - overdose (heroin and benzos) as well as at least a litre of vodka, judging by the empty bottle in his hand. It's a common thing in every city. It had been a lovely warm day, so people had been walking past him thinking he must have just been sun bathing. He had his headphones in his ears and his phone still on his stomach. I should also point out that you were also sitting on a huge rat's nest (and I do mean hundreds of rats). They live right along that whole section of wall as it is the backlane running along Chinatown - is basically waste food city and they have a big nest under that whole mound that you were sitting on top of. Next time you're in the city, walk up to Leazes Park by following the side of St James' Park - you'll soon see all the rats. Plus its a nice park for a walk (it has a small lake and ducks, swans and geese) but look out for the rats. They're everywhere! D'ynahwitameenlikepet?

Fascinating how much of Newcastle reminds me of the older parts of Sydney and Melbourne - especially the Victorian and Edwardian architecture. The Tyne Bridge really has a Sydney Harbour Bridge vibe. I looked it up to see which was older - Sydney's started construction a couple of years earlier than Newcastle's but Newcastle's opened earlier. Loved seeing the cheese and fresh food markets. At first glance the cheese seemed expensive but after a quick currency conversion it was extraordinarily cheap - especially for artisan cheeses. I think similar here in Oz would be 3, 4 or 5 times more expensive. I hadn't seen much about Newcastle before so this was lovely. The Murder Park was delightful, but should we be demanding some sort of proof of life from Dara? 😁
@MagentaOtterTravels
@MagentaOtterTravels 2 жыл бұрын
So fun to hear your comparisons from Down Under! Yes, the bridges were of a similar era and style, as is the architecture. When I go back to Texas, I really miss the wonderful British cheeses at AFFORDABLE prices!!! Yes, I am still alive... thankfully Ian kept his murderous urges at bay... probably because he wanted a cycling partner for the next day! LOL

Fantastic video of my hometown. The thing I like about Jesmond Dene the most is its changing colours throughout the seasons simply beautiful. Next time your in the grainger market pop in a place called the weigh House where you step on some scales to get weighed. For those interested in football you'll be lucky to get a ticket for a game but they do stadium tours which are excellent and even a rooftop tour where you can see panoramic views of the whole city, you would have to book im advance for this though in the clubs website. You dont eat pease pudding by itself but in a stottie a type of flatbread with typically ham. For all cyclists you can travel the full length of the river tyne embankment on a cycle track which is part of the coast 2 coast bike ride this will take you to beautiful small town and beaches of Tynemouth , whitley bay then cullercoats or at northshields you could travel over to southshield on the ferry which is quite fun. If anyones interested in coming to Newcastle and knowing about its history check out a KZbin channel called tyneside life run by a local guy called Eddie its highly recommended, glad you guys enjoyed your stay and didn't get murdered 🙂

Thank you so much for watching my video and letting me know your thoughts! I LOVE hearing from folks who are from the places where I vlog, it is so fun to discuss the local places to visit and things to do and eat! I would love to see Jesmond Dene in different seasons... it is a lovely place. I'm NOT sure I want to be weighed at Grainger Market... I think I'd rather just eat my fill of all the delicious things in the Toon! I am disappointed I didn't get to have a stottie with pease pudding and ham... NEXT TIME! I also definitely want to get to Tyneside next time. YES, so glad we didn't get murdered... or me at least.... Ian seemed to be hatching a dastardly scheme in Jesmond Dene! I feel As I'm sure any others do feel that the City of Newcastle is now very much more for the University Students as there are two universities in Newcastle. Please don't get me wrong I'm not knocking anyone who does go to uni & has a University Education, it does seem very much these days that Newcastle is mainly for students & the people who live & lived here full time have been forgotten about. (Not meaning for a political rant. Just wanted to shear an opinion from a Geordie). I really am truly glad you had a good Time in Newcastle. As a Geordie, I am happy you have discovered our great City. We have two Cathedral's, there's the one on the hill too :) The Grainger Town area is my favourite from a kid growing up, used to love the smell of the market. You should listen to Mark Knopler and Dire Straits, some of the lyrics are about the Quayside, and the coast.

My favourite thing is hearing from Geordies who enjoy this video! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I did enjoy our time wandering through your toon! I didn't know there was more than one cathedral when I was filming and editing... but some other viewers have pointed that out. SO, when I filmed and edited my vlogs of Liverpool I made sure to get BOTH cathedrals! They are actually both super unique and memorable. I hope you give that video a watch as well. Cheers!
