A friend and I are going warrior shaman so can we max money making professions like alchemy and enchanting while we farm dungeons non stop and reserve boe/crusader orbs to get our epic mounts. There will be no pvp ranks for a couple months so I will start leaving a mage on the side so that when pvp is launched I can get that amazing classic mage pvp scene going ;p My thoughts are money will be better from doing the above stated than aoe farming at the start because of lack of gear and crazy high pops. Aoe grinding for money outside of instances will be out of the question.

I played a frost mage from launch until wotlk exclusively. Didn't even have an alt. The class was by far my favorite and pvp was a lot of fun but also took a lot of skill. I would do things like spam blizzard with the slow at choke points in alteric Valley so everyone would have to walk through it slowly taking damage while my team took them out. There were so many fun things you could do with that class. Like any class though, I had my moments sheeping and winning 2 v 1 and stuff but I also got destroyed and beat quickly. Just play what you like because in the end you will win some and lose some no matter what class you pick. I'm not going to play mage this time around.

Mage is the best class, scoring top 3 for almost any task + the amount of freedom mage gives you just makes it more entertaining. However I think strongest class (it's close) is priest with his all around kit and dispell. You have to be healer or constantly switch specs tho :(. The last potentially best class is warrior, mainly because it's best pick for pve.

my first wow char ever was a mage and I raided MC, ony and BWL. I do like the mage, raiding is kind of boring (lame rotation) but otherwise its a nice class. My fear however is that soo many player will roll a mage that it would be difficult to get a raid spot or some armor drops.

In a private server I played on, you could infinite stack Ignite for an infinite amount of time. So a single mage in a guild would spec for maximum spell damage with gear like the spd necklace from Rag in MC and after 5 stacks of scorch would do a pyro crit on the boss. If the crit is large enough then the other mages keep scorching/fireballing to keep the ignite up. The ignite will then continue to roll increasing in damage with every tick. If your tank is good enough, you can even roll to to 50 stacks or so. Then the ignite mage will use a threat clear pot to prevent a wipe and repeat. Crazy speed naxx kills.

Nope I was an undead warlock in vanilla... and going to be one again in classic. As a conflig lock I use to eat mages and others for dinner... and them bodys really refilled my health. Only had issues with hunters when it was even, and rogues that stun licked me. Some good warriors gave me issues. Punkrat what are you running for classic?

I was debating playing mage again this time around but I think I'll go with something else. It's funny how aoe farming is one of the main selling points, used to be a niche thing back in the day. It was nice being able to farm 50g for a respec relatively fast, it's true what Punkrat says about specs.. Sometimes I would wake up in the morning to pvp elementalist AOE, get bored and switch deep frost, then end up PoM Pyro by nighttime. Good times!

Good video, don't sleep on warlocks. Warlocks are consistently top tier in PvP later patches post-death coil fear and in PVE they're very solid with shadow bolt DPS backed by mana tap. Warlocks are very hard to deal with and just like mages they have so many tools and things to use compared to most other classes.

...and then you face people using FAPs but hey we can always sheep and run/blink away. Unless it's a (feral) druid. Sure FAPs may not be common in phase one as there's no Honor (farm) but due to all the info and knowledge we have today compared to back in 2004/2005, don't be surprised to see quite many having those pots. Sure mage can use LIPs vs melee but that's 6 secs. FAP is 30 secs and especially when we get to phase 3 with BGs, doesn't matter if you're in a guild who speed rank level or casual one, it will be a common thing eventually to carry with you.

Most private server 60 firsts are mostly hunters and feral druids (actually). They solo quests like gods and have spells for move speed to help get to 40 faster. Mages are godmode for aoe pullz or one shot killz tho.

most time with all clothies you will have busy work, providing them with something and another thing people forget to mention is how much you use wands to conserve your mana to make it last longer so you are not stuck drinking constantly. for example a mages thing they provide is food and water, you will be asked to do this a lot. a warlocks busy work lies in the soulshard farming since you use it for a lot of things, need to get a pet out, soulshard, need to summon someone? soulshard, want to use a specific spell? soulshard. craft a healthstone? soulshard, craft a soulstone? soulshard. a priests busy work is buffing mainly as you will be asked to do this in every party you get and it will deplete your mana constantly forcing you to take extra mana breaks. if you are ok with these things or you are actually thinking somehow that these are a plus for playing those characters then by all means go for it. all clothies are really strong and should not be underestimated and they can be a lot of fun if you are willing to overlook these things for the more fun part of their kit.

You never spec Frostbite for an aoe specc, because it splits the group of mobs you wanna kite-aoe-kill ;) You also have more than 2 shields for damage: frost barrier=all dmg, mana shield=physical damage and frost/fire ward. Poping "all trinkets" only works in certain patches. A rolling ignite is in most cases a problem to thread, which needs good RL/mages to drop the ignite fast, which ends into boring casting spells others speel schools or YOUR ignite gets rolled by another mage and YOU pull the aggro. Aggro in PvE wasn't really mentioned in general, which in particular often leads to deaths at trash mobs! There is also a big difference between your PvE specc and what you can do with it in PvP ;)

Frost is best for lvl'in and PvP for efficiency, usability and survivability. Fire is good once you hit AQ40, since most or all things there and Naxx40 aren't resistant/immune to fire. Frost is also massively efficient w/high crit chances even if it doesn't crit as hard as Fire. Arcane is good for duels and arenas (post-BC), but isn't worth much outside of that, unless you're w/a constant pack in PvP. It's not efficient and is slow due to Fireball bein 0.5 secs longer, which makes a massive difference in PvP and mana efficiency for PvE.

I level a mage I think to 90 in the new wow then I had to boost to 110 also warlock but in the new wow warlock are much more fun but for classic I don’t k ow what to pick I hate warrior for no healing and you rely on potions a lot I am thinking paladín or any healer type class I I have never healed in a mmo before and want to try it

Both mages and rogues will be overpopulated. That said you will have much easier time to get into groups as a mage. And according to some poll there should also be quite a lot of shamans, but I imagine many people will reroll once they find out that enhancement is a lackluster spec and inability to raid as ele due to mana issues. I personally wouldn't play a mage, simply because I have very little interest in the class. But you have with as an option, I would suggest a mage or a hunter. Hunter are relatively easy to gear, but they don't scale that well.

It took me years to master play my mage (played since day 1) i learned to play it well by the end of pandarean and ranked high on WoD and Legion, is not an easy class to play and i bet most of the new players trying classic mage will quit after they get to lvl 60 or 40 and roll and easier class as warlock or hunter. PS: i didn't played much mage on vanilla because my hardware and internet connection sucked very bad back then, so it was almost impossible to kite anything.

what about leeway on pve grinding on the real servers ? Isnt it much harder to grind in live version ?

Paladins are preferred in live servers, since they wear Plate and it's so easy to AoE farm w/them, while spammin melee moves that ignore armor; Mages are still heavily used, though, due to their ability to make their own food, cheap repair bills and high efficiency dependin on which spells you spam

Hey Punkrat good video! I just wanted to mention something that most people don't think about when it comes to mage. and that's arcane damage. There's a trinket from ZG from the Edge of Madness bosses that give mages the Hazza'rah's Charm of Magic an interesting trinket that has an on Use: Increases the critical hit chance of your Arcane spells by 5%, and increases the critical hit damage of your Arcane spells by 50% for 20 sec. (cooldown 3 min) This item is amazing to swap on for any trash that takes extra damage from arcane. Take the trash in BWL and Chromaggus etc. Or even just to aoe with arcane explosion. This trinket is highly underrated and is worth the pick up imo. Also I appreciate you using my footage in your videos, but could you do a channel shout out maybe ;)

Even if they were fucking everywhere and as weak as Balance druids I'd still play one in classic (at least at first) It's what I started out as, and remain loyal to to this day. I may take a break occasionally to play a warlock or druid, but over-all, mages are my favorite.
