I think Val and Maggie were a bit more forward thinking on the 'gay issue' than the presenter-infact it made her look a bit stupid! Well done!

Yeah! I'm so glad they turned it around on her. A few days ago I watched an interview of Maggie where the interviewer said "What's it like to play a filthy bull dyke type character" and the asked her how she delt with ppl thinking she was a "dyke".. -_- 😡

Prisoner was a mainstream hit at 8.30 pm twice a week on Channel Ten in Australia in its original run. It wasn't a 'cult' hit, it was a mainstream hit. Maggie and Val's response to the question is spot on. Fact is Australian soaps had featured gay characters and gay couples starting 1972. When Prisoner came along no one in Australia really batted an eyelid. The UK were a long way behind in this and in the UK the show had a reputation for being cult/gay cult/lesbian cult.

Prisoner is very popular in the gay community. I don't know why Val continually denies this

The presenter is Linda Mitchell. I believe this clip was part of BBC Wales's coverage of Garden Festival Wales, which took place in Ebbw Vale between May and October 1992. BBC Wales did a magazine-style programme live from the festival each afternoon from Monday to Friday. Here's where she is now: www.cardiff.ac.uk/people/research-students/view/195191-mitchell-linda

I hope that the reporter has shorts on? Why is sitting like that? Inappropriate! I love Val character and love to hate Maggie's character!

If I'm not mistaken, this interview comes from a Mon-Fri BBC Wales lunchtime talkshow called "Linda Mitchell" (also the name of the interviewer!), which was filmed at Garden Festival Wales (Ebbw Vale) in the early 90s for the duration of the festival. The theme tune for the show (I think) was East 17's "Deep". I believe Miss Mitchell still works for BBC Wales as either a reporter or DJ...

Naughty Val. Crossroads was made by Reg Watson who also made Prisoner. I think he would be shocked to hear that from the lady who speaks her mind, the cocky lady, who I am sure she is bloody nice and funny as well. Dazza xx
