Met her in the late 80's whilst working and she was super friendly even while receiving abuse from random idiots. She has my respect.

Miss Maggie Kirkpatrick was born to play Prison Officer Joan Ferguson, Miss Maggie Kirkpatrick was absolutely OUTSTANDING, This is a great video behind the scenes very informative and very interesting. Miss Maggie Kirkpatrick comes across so natural and down to earth, such a GREAT LADY.

I watched this on itv back in the 90s when it aired, I was a kid back then and sat up late at night with my granny to watch it. She is now watching the whole series for a third time on dvd all these years later. This is a rare gem by the way, I love how the backlot is all connected, things you would never imagine when watching the show. Maggie comes across as such a good down to earth person.

Thanks for posting. I just watched this after listening to the Talking Prisoner podcast. It must be a very rare piece of TV. Amazing to see behind the scenes and the sets, and to see what Maggie looked like out of character at the time. You can tell her first love is theatre when she talks about wanting to return. I imagine all the actresses are still a bit bemused how popular it is more than 40 years later. I started watching with my grandma when I was a child in the UK

Good to see Maggie Kirkpatrick the actress being herself out of that horrid officer uniform. I didn't like The Freak in the series - but admired Maggie for playing such a demanding role - juggling her tough side with the inmates, and her "softer side" with kids and dogs. I grew up watching PCBH as a teen.

I was one years old but we did not get series here until the early 90s and it was shown very late at night , the series was actually started in late 77 then broadcast in the following year . I love the Wentworth Freak but she does too much talking and weird facial movements , the original Freak was much more scary imo

Maggie was only 41 when she started this role, when you look at some of the rest of the cast - Val Lehman, 36. Judith McGrath, 32. Fiona Spence, 33. It’s hard to believe, even though they were playing roles that they were this young. Times have changed - people of those ages these days seem to look like teenagers!

Actually the walls and bars being wobbly were myths. If you watch the episodes again you’ll see at not point does anything on the set move or tremble.
