I went to Ghost Town In The Sky when I was a kid in the late seventies. I remember riding up the mountain on the cable cars. My parents still have pictures of my brother and I with our cowboy hats on and out guns strapped to our hips riding the cable car up the mountain. Such fun watching the gun fights, and the shows they put on in the saloons.

Thank you for commenting. I love hearing stories like yours. I had fond memories of Ghost Town myself and that is why I wanted to make this video. It might be a long shot. But, I really do hope it reopens one day.

I remember these parks when I was young in western North Carolina. They were awesome and I remember ghost town, frontier land, tweetsie railroad, and the land of Oz. These were great places in American history before Carowinds and other parks were even thought about. I wish we could go back in time for these were the greatest days of life

Hey Michael. That is some great memories you have there. I agree with you about going back in time to relive some of those great moments. The older I get the more I miss the way things used to be. It seems like theme parks was a lot of fun back then. I recently visited Disney World and you had to have a smart phone to do everything. It is a little sad to see how things are changing.

Wow, Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Have some great memories from my grandparents (now deceased 05 & 08) taking me there in 1977 as a 7 y/o kid. Such a unique place as well as the smokies in general. We're headed to Bryson city in June, definitely going to have to pit stop to show my son and his girlfriend this place. If I would have know this is how it would be I would have taken him in 04 or 05.Hope it comes back then maybe take the future grandkids!

You are so welcome. I enjoy sharing relics like this on our channel when I have a chance. If you go to Bryson City the "Road to Know Where" is a nice place to explore. And it has a interesting back story. I have a video about if you would like to check that out. Maybe to see if it would interest you or not. Here is a link to the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJ6cY6CGlK6liMk Thank you again for watching. And have your self a blessed day.

Digger the undertaker, at the bottom of the monument, is also the nickname of Digger Maines on the show moonshiners. He also is a real undertaker. That can't be coincidental, and I actually learned of this place from the show.

I still hate that chairlift. That thing is nightmare inducing. It wasn't so bad on the way up, but on the way down sheesh was I terrified. Chairlifts don't go fast either, so it was an agonizing ride for someone like me who damn near panic attacks due to a fear of heights. I loved Ghost Town though. We would visit my aunt in Hendersonville every summer, and while there we would go to either Ghost Town or Santa Land. Ghost Town was my favorite, because it had the Red Devil. The last time I rode it it almost broke my back though. For whatever reason I got slung forward hard during the loop, and I was walking hunched over for a week after that. This would have been sometime around 1995. Nothing like that had ever happened before, and my cousin who was on the ride with me walked away completely unscathed.

I'm not sure I would put my grandkids on the rides lol... but as a child in the late 80s early 90s this was a great place to be... I lived the red devil and the dragon! I also loved the cowboy fig h ts they were awsome. It was a good place to visit with many memory's to make❤❤❤

I worked at Ghost Town as a gunfighter off and on from 2001-2014. I have never heard any mention of another amusement park in Maggie Valley. You may be referring to Frontier Land in Cherokee which is 15 miles from Maggie Valley. Both parks were owned by R. B. Coburn.

I loved the park always have but felt it could be more than what it was. it definitely has potential. but it would take a whole lot of money to get it to it's full potential. they need the likes of cedar fair or six flags to come it. but this being completely on top a mountain an the park has just about all the land on top I don't think it can expand an if they did expand the only way they could is down a steap Clif so be hard to do anything on the literal side of clif

@@johnstrickland3933 definitely agree with you the size of it definitely probably wouldn’t be good for the amount of land parks need in this day in time to go visit I definitely don’t think it will ever open pack up as a theme park just will cost to much to maintain for such a small piece of land we shall see would be cool if they do something with it
