ever since her album dropped, i couldn't stop replaying this song. it's the perfect song to listen to when you're crushing on someone you can never have, and you have to painfully remind yourself that you have to stop loving them or else you would end up in pain. it's so bittersweet, beautiful, intimate, painful, and delicate at the same time. and idk if it's the added experience with this song, but this song is just so hauntingly beautiful that i can't stop playing it. very few new artists can have an impact like that on their listeners.

i love this song and i don't know much about 90s r&b, do you have any recommendations of songs that sound kinda like this one?
@aimeel75765 жыл бұрын
@@jimhewfan6604 I think the intro sounds very similar to Donna Lewis - I Love You Always Forever. It's from the 90s but not R&B. It also sounds like it has a touch of Pattie Labelle? To me, Say It is like a combination of many past decade's resonances - you can't put your finger on how it is exactly like one song but you know it sounds familiar. :)

~ Lyrics ~ Standing in the open light Within the swelter of the night I found myself staring at you And every time our fingers touched I felt like it would be too much And too little to hang on to I cannot fall in love with you I cannot feel this way so soon, so soon I cannot be this way with you I cannot fall in love with you I knew it when you looked my way That I'd be begging you to stay I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it to myself I fought that burdened pain away I held on when you moved away I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it I couldn't just say it And every evening, every time I keep replaying in my mind And wondering if you do the same And if it makes you lose your breath And if it makes you just forget That all of it's a bit insane I cannot fall in love with you I cannot feel this way so soon I cannot be this way with you I cannot fall in love with you I knew it when you looked my way That I'd be begging you to stay I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it to myself I fought that burdened pain away I held on when you moved away I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it to myself I knew it when you walked my way That I'd be begging you to stay I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it to myself I fought that burdened pain away I held on when you moved away I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it to myself I couldn't say it I couldn't just say it That I cannot fall in love with you I cannot feel this way so soon, so soon I cannot be this way with you I cannot fall in love with you

I love the diversity in this album. This is the first time I'm listening to it in 2023. Maggie has great pop sensibilities and harmonies but still pulls off a unique sound, with strong grooves and a folk, indie feel. It's a rare mix to hear all of them together at once but it really works and makes the album pop when hearing these gems for the first time. I'm enjoying listening to her older album before I step into the latest album, Surrender.
