@@MarcAbela Great music will have waves of tension and release. It’s what keeps people listening. In this song, however, there are only three chords in the chorus. It's a great track and the lyrics are intense for someone so young. But I think what really made Pharrell take not was the intuitive way she built up the vocal layers from the beat. They're choral and percussive at the same time, without sounding derivative. An intuitive understanding of something complex is a sign of genius and Pharrell knows that. She's also really into it because she's remembering the effect she was trying to create. If you've evwr been involved in music production you will have had that feeling. It's not preening or showing off. It's being caught up in the flow of remembering making the thing that appealed to you, and the reason it appealed is the emotional response it generated.

Maybe vulnerability is not the weakness that you imply, but rather power.
@_moonfall_7 жыл бұрын
@buggeroff I think you've misunderstood, vulnerability is not limited to someone's safety, in the way that a young woman is 'vulnerable' in going home alone in the dark. The original poster is meaning vulnerability in the sense of the emotional exposure she is risking by having her music listened to and judged and the bravery that can require.

The different stages of Pharrell's reactions as seen through my eyes: 0:04 - Inquisitive and Interested Pharrell 0:12 - Attentive Pharrell 0:23 - Very Intrigued Pharrell 0:35 - Approving Pharrell 0:41 - Vibing, with a dash of disbelief Pharrell 0:50 - Inquisitive and Attentive returns Pharrell (song dissection really begins) 0:57 - Excited Pharrell 1:01 - Another dose of "are you kidding me?" Pharrell 1:08 - Pharrell thinking, " Whoa! What on Earth have you gotten me into?" to whoever else is in the room. 1:18 - Another "are you kidding me?" face + Bounce Section #1 1:30 - Coy Recognition by Pharrell 1:37 - Happy Pharrell get's comfortable for the 2nd Verse 1:43 - Bounce Section #2 1:50 - Shocked Pharrell 1:56 - Pharrell literally can't take it anymore and say, "Crazy!" 2:06 - Uncomfortable Pharrell 2:12 - Pharrell starts to look deeper into the song...(This is my favorite part because you can see his eyes start to scan differently) 2:18 - Bounce Section #3 2:20 - Shakes his head...can't find anything wrong 2:27 - Pharrell thinks, "Yup, this jams!" ... Bounce Section #4 2:36 - Bounce continues w/ more analyzing 2:56 - Vibing ensues... 3:11 - Pharrell exhales in total disbelief 3:15 - Bamboozled Pharrell 3:18 - Shocked Pharrell 3:20 to the end - Praise Rains Down from Pharrell Hahaha. I enjoyed this song so much. Maggie is an amazing artist and to watch Pharrell's reactions while hearing her track for the first time was priceless. Her getting a little lost in her own music, the little side glances, then blocking out the whole world and only focusing on what the golden legend sitting next to her has to say about her creation, pupils dilated and all. Everything is so relatable as a creator. It's a safe bet to state that music, both others' and my own, has saved my life and I trace my virtual way back here every now and then to remind myself of that.
